Full Description

The Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls

The Brazilian side gives the widest view of the falls. A walkway follows the canyon rim, and from its viewpoints you see the full curtain of water spreading across the cliffs, with the Devil's Throat in the distance. A lift and a platform close to the water at the end give you a sense of the power of the falls, and you will feel the spray.

The Brazilian visit is usually shorter, about two to three hours, and is best done first. Many visitors ask whether the Brazilian side is worth it if they go to Argentina: yes, because you see how the falls fit together as a whole. Bring a light rain jacket, as the spray can soak you.

The Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls

The Argentinian side lets you walk among the falls. Elevated paths and trails take you over and beside the cascades, and you can choose between the Upper Circuit, from above the falls, and the Lower Circuit, in the forest at the base. The park also has an open-air train and a walkway to the edge of the largest fall.

Plan for four to five hours in Argentina, and start with the Devil's Throat while the crowds are low if it is open. Watch for coatis, toucans and butterflies in the forest. Wear shoes with good grip and bring water. Some walkways can close temporarily for high water or weather.

Devil's Throat

The Devil's Throat, or Garganta del Diablo, is the biggest single fall of the system, a U-shaped gorge where the river drops with great noise and a cloud of mist. On the Argentinian side, a train and long walkway take you to the very edge, and on the Brazilian side a viewing platform shows it from the side.

Seeing it from both countries is the main reason to take this two-side tour. The height of the falls reaches up to about eighty metres and the whole system stretches for nearly three kilometres. If the Argentinian walkway is closed by high water, your guide explains the alternatives on the day.

Border crossing, tickets and options

The two sides are in different countries, so you cross the international border by road between Foz do Iguacu and Puerto Iguazu. Carry your passport and check whether you need a visa for Argentina; delays at customs can happen and are outside our control.

Park tickets and the Argentina tourism tax, paid in cash, are not included, and your guide helps you buy the tickets online step by step. The full-day option covers both sides in about ten hours, and the two-day option splits them into two half-day visits, which is more relaxed. Pickup is at 07:00 and the exact time is confirmed after booking.
