Cappadocia: Cappadocia is the valley region of fairy chimneys, cave hotels and dawn balloon flights around Göreme, Ürgüp, Uçhisar and Avanos, served by two airports: Nevşehir Kapadokya (NAV) about 40 km from Göreme and Kayseri Erkilet (ASR) about 75 km away.
Bodrum: Bodrum is a whitewashed peninsula on the Aegean with a Crusader castle over its harbour, Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) about 36 km to the north-east, and resort towns spread around the coast from Gümbet and Bitez to Turgutreis, Yalıkavak and Türkbükü.
Fethiye: Fethiye sits on a wide bay of the Turquoise Coast about 50 km from Dalaman Airport (DLM), with the Blue Lagoon of Ölüdeniz over the hill, the resort strips of Çalış and Hisarönü, and the Lycian ruins and gorges of the Kayaköy and Saklıkent countryside.
Izmir: İzmir is Turkey's third city and the capital of the Aegean coast, with Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) about 18 km south of the Konak waterfront, the Kordon promenade and bazaar in the centre, and Çeşme, Kuşadası, Ephesus and Pergamon within a couple of hours by road.
Marmaris: Marmaris is a harbour resort at the head of a fjord-like bay where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean, about 95 km from Dalaman Airport (DLM), with İçmeler around the bay, Turunç over the headland and the Datça peninsula stretching west.
Planning a trip to Turkey
Most first trips pair Istanbul with one other region - the coast in summer, Cappadocia in spring or autumn, Trabzon and the highlands from June to September.
