Overview
This 90-minute evening walking tour turns the oldest lanes of Prague into a stage for the city's legends. You meet your English-speaking guide at 19:00 on Křižovnické Square at the Old Town end of Charles Bridge and walk, as dusk settles, past the bridge, the Clementinum, Mariánské Square and the narrow alleys of the Old Town to the Astronomical Clock, where you hear the story of the skeleton that strikes the hour. Along the way costumed ghosts appear for surprise encounters that are more funny than frightening. It is a shared group walk with no hotel pickup. The option described here also includes a ticket to the Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague museum, visited on your own on any day; a version without the ticket exists.

Full Description
Křižovnické Square and Charles Bridge
The walk begins by the statue of Charles IV on Křižovnické Square, the small square squeezed between the Old Town Bridge Tower and the baroque church of St. Francis. From here you look straight along Charles Bridge toward the castle, and this is where your guide sets the scene: a city of kings, knights and alchemists where every corner has a story. The square is easy to reach, two minutes from the Staroměstská metro and tram stops.
Charles Bridge itself is the source of the first legends. The guide tells how its foundation stone was laid in 1357 at a moment chosen by astrologers, why eggs are said to have been mixed into the mortar, and which of the baroque statues is linked to the tale of a priest thrown into the river. A Charles Bridge legends tour at dusk, when the lamps come on and the day crowds thin out, is a very different experience from the daytime walk.
The Clementinum
A few steps from the bridge stands the Clementinum, the former Jesuit college that grew into a vast complex of churches, courtyards, an observatory tower and the famous baroque library hall. It houses the National Library today, and its walls hide stories of scholars, astronomers and strange experiments that your guide brings to life as you pass through the quiet courtyards.
At night the Clementinum is peaceful, and the contrast between its grand facades and the dark lanes around it is part of the atmosphere. This stop is also where the tour touches the world of alchemy and the old Prague obsession with turning lead into gold, which connects to the Alchemists and Magicians museum included in your ticket.
Mariánské Square and the Old Town lanes
Mariánské Square is lined by the New City Hall and the Clementinum, and its corners hold two of the city's best-known legendary figures in stone: the Iron Knight, a man condemned to haunt the nearby street until a pure-hearted maiden sets him free, and the rabbi credited with creating the Golem from Vltava clay. Your guide tells both stories here, where they are said to have happened.
From the square the route plunges into the narrow, winding lanes between Mariánské Square and Old Town Square, the darkest and quietest part of the walk. This is where the costumed ghosts tend to appear, and where the guide shares the tales of headless knights, cursed houses and the hand that still hangs in a nearby church as a warning to thieves. Comfortable shoes are useful on the cobbles.
Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock
The walk ends in Old Town Square, in front of the Old Town Hall and its Astronomical Clock. Installed in 1410, the clock still strikes every hour, and among the moving figures beside the dial is a skeleton that pulls the bell rope: the figure of Death, reminding the city that time runs out for everyone. The guide tells the legend of the clockmaker and why the people of Prague once feared the clock would stop forever.
Seeing the square at night, with the Týn Church towers lit above the market houses and the clock face glowing, is one of the best things to do in Prague in the evening. The tour finishes here at about 20:30, in the middle of the Old Town, so dinner, a walk back to the hotel or the evening tram are all close by.
Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague museum
Your ticket includes a self-guided visit to the Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague museum at Jánský vršek 8 in the Lesser Town, below the castle. The museum is set in a house once linked to the court alchemists, and its rooms recreate a laboratory with furnaces, glass retorts, an elixir of eternal youth and the attic workshop where legend says a flying machine and a homunculus were created.
The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00 and the ticket is valid on any day, so you can visit before the tour, the next morning or on your way to Prague Castle. Plan about 45 minutes. Together with the evening walk it gives a complete picture of the mystical side of the city, the reason so many visitors search for a Prague ghost walk with a museum included.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private experience?
It is a shared evening walking tour with a live guide and a group of other visitors. If you would like a private version for your family or group, tell us on WhatsApp and we will check what can be arranged.
How long does the tour take?
The walk lasts about 90 minutes, from 19:00 to roughly 20:30. The museum visit is separate and takes about 45 minutes on any day you like.
Is hotel pickup included?
No. The meeting point on Křižovnické Square is in the centre of the Old Town, two minutes from the Staroměstská metro station.
What is included?
The live English-speaking guide, the 90-minute evening walk with stops at Charles Bridge, the Clementinum, Mariánské Square and Old Town Square, the costumed ghost encounters and an entrance ticket to the Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague museum. A version without the museum ticket is also offered.
Is the price per person or per group?
Tickets are per person, with adult and youth categories. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.
Is the tour scary? Is it suitable for children?
It is entertaining rather than scary: the ghosts are actors and the stories are told with humour. Teenagers love it and youth tickets cover ages 12 to 17. Very small children may be startled by the costumes, so we suggest it for families with older children.
Is it suitable for reduced mobility?
The route is about two kilometres on cobbled lanes at a slow pace with frequent stops. There are no stairs, but the uneven surface makes it hard for wheelchairs; write to us if you have specific needs.
What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes, a warm layer for the evening, an umbrella in case of rain and your phone with the booking confirmation.
When can I visit the museum?
On any day during your stay, between 10:00 and 20:00. It is in the Lesser Town at Jánský vršek 8, a short walk below Prague Castle, so many guests combine it with their castle visit.
What is the best season for a Prague ghost tour?
Autumn and winter give the earliest darkness and the moodiest atmosphere, while summer evenings are mild and still light at the start. The tour runs all year.
What happens in bad weather?
The walk goes ahead in light rain; bring an umbrella. Only severe weather would cause a change, and in that case we help you move to another evening.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose your date in the booking panel and send the request. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes and sends the exact meeting point and the museum details.
