Full Description
Billund, birthplace of the LEGO brick
Billund is a small town in the heart of Jutland, the Danish mainland, yet it is known all over the world as the birthplace of the LEGO brick. The company began here in 1932 as a workshop making wooden toys, and the interlocking plastic brick followed in 1958. So many visitors came to see where the bricks were made that in 1968 the company opened LEGOLAND beside the factory, the very first park of its kind.
How to get to LEGOLAND Billund is easy. Billund Airport, with direct flights from many European cities, is about five minutes away, and buses connect the park with the railway station at Vejle. By car the drive takes a little under three hours from Copenhagen and just over an hour from Aarhus, and there is a large car park at the entrance, although the parking fee is not included in the ticket.
Miniland and the themed worlds
Miniland is the heart of the park and the part most visitors remember longest. Here harbours, Scandinavian towns, airports and famous landmarks from around the world are rebuilt in miniature from millions of bricks, with boats sailing along canals, trains crossing bridges and tiny cars moving through the streets. Allow at least an hour to wander through it; children love spotting the details, and adults are often amazed by the craftsmanship.
Around Miniland spread the other themed worlds. Knights' Kingdom has the Dragon, a roller coaster that races through a castle; Legoredo Town is a frontier town where you can pan for gold, paddle a canoe or ride the Flying Eagle; Adventure Land mixes jungle beasts and ancient mummies; and the Imagination Zone combines live sharks and moray eels, a musical water fountain and a 4D cinema. On Brick Street, families sit down together to build their own creations.
Rides and thrills: Speedway, Pirate Land and Polar Land
The big new attraction for 2026 is the Minifigure Speedway, Denmark's first duelling roller coaster, where two trains race side by side and run both forwards and in reverse, so nobody knows who will cross the finish line first. In Polar Land the Polar X-plorer drops riders through a 5-metre free fall, and at the Ice Pilots School children design their own ride on a robot arm before taking a seat.
Pirate Land is the place for water fun: put on swimwear for the splash rides and water games, or stay dry by climbing the lighthouse. Height, build and age limits apply on some rides, so check them on arrival to plan your route. With one ticket you can ride everything as often as queues allow, and remember that rides close one to two hours before the park itself.
Planning your day: toddlers, food and the best time to visit
LEGOLAND Billund works well for every age. DUPLO Land is a safe, colourful play area where toddlers can roam and explore, and the baby care centre provides nappies, changing tables, a microwave and a quiet feeding lounge. If you visit on your birthday, ask for a free birthday badge at the entrance. Food is sold all over the park, and you are welcome to bring your own and eat at the designated picnic tables and benches.
The best time to visit LEGOLAND Billund is a weekday in early summer or September, when the weather is mild and queues are shorter; Tuesdays and Wednesdays are typically the busiest days. The park follows a seasonal calendar, usually from late March to the end of October plus selected holidays, and in October it fills with Halloween decorations and longer evenings. Opening hours usually start at 10:00, so arrive early to make the most of your day.
