Full Description
How the digital Copenhagen Card works
The Copenhagen Card is a digital pass stored in the Copenhagen Card app. After you book, you receive a code, which you redeem in the app, and you then activate the card at the moment you want the validity to begin. The card then runs for 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours, depending on the option you chose.
Important: your booking voucher does not give access to venues on its own. You must redeem the code and activate the card in the app before your first visit. The app is available in several languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Turkish, and it lists every attraction with opening hours and directions.
Attractions included with the Copenhagen Card
The list covers more than 80 sights. Highlights include Rosenborg Castle, which holds the Crown Jewels, Amalienborg Palace Museum, the National Museum, the Design Museum Denmark, the Danish Architecture Centre, the Royal Reception Rooms at Christiansborg, the Karen Blixen Museum and the Cisterns. Further out, Kronborg Castle, the Viking Ship Museum and ARKEN are also on the list.
You can add a Classic Canal Tour, the zoo and more, which makes the card ideal if you want to see a lot in a few days. Tivoli Gardens is on the list for gardens entry only, and ride tickets are not included. Each attraction can be visited once with the card, and many museums close on Mondays, so plan your days accordingly.
Public transport in Greater Copenhagen
The card gives you free, unlimited travel on city buses, the metro, local trains and the harbour buses in Greater Copenhagen, which saves you from buying tickets for each ride. It also covers the trip between the airport and the city centre, so you can use it from the moment you land, if you activate it then.
Using the card for transport makes the most of a longer validity. The metro is fast and runs day and night, and the harbour buses give a scenic way to cross the water. To see Kronborg Castle or other sights outside the centre, check the zone coverage and the timetable in the app before you go.
Choosing 24 to 120 hours, and planning your Copenhagen Card days
If you are wondering whether the Copenhagen Card is worth it, count the attractions you truly want to see. A longer card suits an itinerary of several museums and castles each day, while a shorter one works if you plan a few key sights and a lot of transport. The booking panel shows the price for each duration, for adults and children.
Start your card in the morning so you use the full hours, and plan your museum visits earlier in the validity, as they close before the evening. Each adult can bring up to two children aged 0 to 11, and children aged 3 to 11 need their own child card ordered together with the adult card.
