Full Description
Sagrada Família – the basilica of Barcelona
The Sagrada Família is the symbol of Barcelona and the most visited monument in Spain. Work began in 1882 and Gaudí devoted more than forty years of his life to it, designing a basilica in which every facade tells a story: the Nativity facade, alive with carved nature, the stark Passion facade and the Glory facade still under construction. Inside, tree-like columns branch towards the vaults, and stained-glass windows fill the nave with blue and green light in the morning and red and orange in the afternoon.
With the pass you can choose a guided tour of the Sagrada Família, the best way to understand its symbolism and engineering. Sagrada Família tickets sell out days ahead in high season, so reserve your time slot as soon as you know your dates. Allow about 1.5 hours, and remember that shoulders and knees should be covered inside the basilica.
Park Güell – Gaudí's garden city
Park Güell was designed between 1900 and 1914 as a private garden city for wealthy families. The project failed commercially, and the land became a public park in 1926; today its Monumental Zone is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the entrance stand two gatehouses that look like gingerbread houses, the famous mosaic dragon-lizard watches over the main staircase, and the great terrace is wrapped by a serpentine bench covered in broken-tile mosaic, with views over the whole city to the sea.
Park Güell tickets give access to the Monumental Zone at a set time, and the pass includes a hosted entry. Many visitors ask how to get to Park Güell: bus lines from the centre stop close to the gates, or the metro to Lesseps or Vallcarca followed by an uphill walk. Plan about 1.5 hours and come early in the morning or late in the afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds.
Casa Batlló – the dragon house on Passeig de Gràcia
Casa Batlló, remodelled by Gaudí between 1904 and 1906, is one of the most photographed buildings in Barcelona. Its facade glitters with broken glass and ceramic in blues and greens, the balconies look like masks and the roof curves like the back of a dragon. Inside, wavy wooden doors, a mushroom-shaped fireplace and a light well tiled in shades of blue make you feel as if you were under the sea.
Casa Batlló is on the pass list, saving the cost of a separate ticket. It stands on Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona's grand Modernista avenue, a short walk from Casa Milà, so you can combine them in a single morning. Allow about 1 to 1.5 hours with the audio guide.
Hop-on hop-off bus, Montjuïc cable car and Poble Espanyol
A 24-hour hop-on hop-off bus ticket is one of the most popular choices on the pass: open-top buses link the main sights, from the Sagrada Família and Passeig de Gràcia to the port, Montjuïc and the beaches, with recorded commentary on board. It is the easiest way to get your bearings on the first day and to reach sights that are far apart.
On Montjuïc hill, the cable car rises over pine woods to the 17th-century castle, with sweeping views of the port and the sea. Nearby, Poble Espanyol is an open-air museum built for the 1929 International Exhibition, where streets and squares reproduce traditional architecture from all over Spain, with craft workshops where artisans work in glass, ceramics and leather.
Sant Pau Modernista site and more sights
The Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, the former Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, is one of the largest Art Nouveau complexes in Europe and shares its UNESCO listing with the Palau de la Música Catalana. Its pavilions, decorated with mosaic domes, sculpture and colourful tiles, are linked by underground tunnels and set among gardens; Avinguda de Gaudí connects it in a straight line to the Sagrada Família.
The pass list also includes sights such as Torre Bellesguard, a lesser-known Gaudí work on the slopes of Collserola, the observation deck of Torre Glòries, a catamaran cruise along the coast and a flamenco show. The line-up changes from time to time, and the pass app shows the current list, opening times and how to access each one.
How the pass works and is it worth it
The pass is valid for one year from purchase and is activated the first time you scan it at an attraction; from that moment you have 30 days to use the number of visits you bought. Popular sights such as the Sagrada Família, Park Güell and Casa Batlló require a reserved time slot, so book them in the pass app as soon as you know your dates. You can save the pass on your phone or print it.
Is a Barcelona pass worth it? It makes most sense if you plan to see several paid sights: choose the number that matches your trip, put the most expensive sights first and use the 30-day window to avoid rushing. The child pass for ages 4 to 12 makes family trips easier to budget.
