Tenerife
Plan Tenerife with Haqqi Tours: day tours, private airport transfers, attraction tickets and packages, run by our own team and confirmed on WhatsApp in Arabic or English.
Step out of your hotel in Tenerife and the first thing you notice is the mountain. Snow-dusted in winter, ochre and violet in summer, the cone of Mount Teide floats above the clouds while palms rustle along the promenade below and the Atlantic breaks white against black volcanic rock. The air smells of salt and sun-warmed pine, and in the cafés locals linger over a cortado and a plate of papas arrugadas with fiery red mojo.

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, a volcanic world off the coast of Africa where Spain’s highest peak, ancient laurel forests and a colonial town that shaped cities across the Americas share one island. Its mild climate in every season has earned it the name of the island of eternal spring.
Why include Tenerife in your itinerary?
- Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage site, rises from a lunar caldera of lava fields and coloured rock, and its cable car carries you into thin, crystal-clear air with views across the whole archipelago.
- San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a UNESCO-listed town of pastel mansions and carved wooden balconies, became the model for colonial cities across Latin America, giving Tenerife a cultural depth that reaches far beyond its beaches.
- Spring-like weather all year and protected dark skies make Tenerife one of the world’s finest places for stargazing, while pilot whales and dolphins live in the wild just off its south-west coast in every season.
Signature experiences in Tenerife
Mount Teide National Park
The road to Teide climbs through pine forest into a vast caldera of black, red and ochre lava fields, where strange rock towers called the Roques de García stand against a deep blue sky. The cable car rises to just below the summit, revealing La Gomera, La Palma and Gran Canaria floating on a sea of clouds. We issue cable car tickets, which sell out early in high season, and our guided day tour handles the mountain roads, the altitude stops and the best viewpoints, with sunset options.
Papas Arrugadas, Mojo and Canarian Markets
Canarian cooking is simple and full of flavour: small wrinkled potatoes boiled in salty water and served with red and green mojo sauces, freshly grilled vieja fish, slow-cooked rabbit in salmorejo and gofio, a toasted grain flour eaten on the islands for centuries. In Santa Cruz, the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África overflows with tropical fruit, smoked goat’s cheeses and island honey. Our guided day tours stop at village restaurants where locals eat, and our team recommends traditional spots near your hotel.
La Laguna and La Orotava
In the north, San Cristóbal de La Laguna is a grid of pastel mansions, carved wooden balconies and shaded cloisters, lively with university students and best explored on foot. Further west, the hillside town of La Orotava keeps grand manor houses with flower-filled courtyards above a valley of banana plantations, famous for its carpets of flowers and volcanic sand in early summer. Our guided day tour of the north links both towns with the Anaga forest, or our team can arrange a private car with driver at your own pace.
Masca, Los Gigantes and La Gomera
In the island’s north-west, the hamlet of Masca clings to a ridge above a deep ravine, reached by a road of tight hairpins and breathtaking views. Nearby, the sheer cliffs of Los Gigantes plunge straight into the Atlantic, and licensed boats head out to watch pilot whales and dolphins in the wild. From Los Cristianos we issue ferry tickets for a day on La Gomera, with its misty Garajonay forest, and our guided day tours connect these highlights smoothly.
The Anaga Mountains and Teide’s Night Sky
In the far north-east, the Anaga Mountains form a UNESCO biosphere reserve of jagged ridges cloaked in ancient laurel forest, where mist drips from moss-covered branches and paths lead down to the black-sand beach of Benijo. On clear nights, Teide’s high plateau becomes one of the darkest skies in Europe, and the Milky Way arcs across the caldera. Our guided day tour explores Anaga’s viewpoints and villages, and our evening stargazing excursion pairs expert guides and telescopes with comfortable transport back to your hotel.
Neighbourhoods and quarters to know in Tenerife
Costa Adeje
On the sunny south-west coast, Costa Adeje is Tenerife’s most polished resort area, with elegant hotels, landscaped promenades and calm beaches such as Playa del Duque. It is safe, family-friendly and close to Tenerife South Airport, with easy access to Los Gigantes and the whale-watching boats. Choose it for reliable sunshine, sea views and relaxed days by the water.
Los Cristianos
Once a fishing village, Los Cristianos is now a lively, walkable town with a golden-sand beach, a long promenade and the ferry port for La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. It is safe and practical, with plenty of restaurants and shops, and suits families and travellers who want to combine beach time with island hopping.
Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava
On the green north coast, Puerto de la Cruz has a historic harbour, black-sand beaches and the seawater pools of Lago Martiánez, while La Orotava sits just above it in the valley. The climate is slightly cooler and lusher than in the south and the atmosphere more traditional, making it a calm, safe base for Teide, La Laguna and Anaga.
Santa Cruz and La Laguna
The capital, Santa Cruz, offers a real Canarian city feel, with shopping streets, the Auditorio’s white wave of concrete and the famous February carnival, while La Laguna next door adds UNESCO-listed streets and student life. Both are safe, close to Tenerife North Airport and linked by tram, ideal for culture lovers and shorter city stays.
How long to stay in Tenerife and how to pair it
Recommended stay
Five to seven nights suit Tenerife well. That allows a full day at Teide, a day for La Laguna, La Orotava and Anaga, a day for Masca and Los Gigantes, a ferry day to La Gomera and time to enjoy the beaches. With only three or four nights, focus on Teide and the green north.
How to pair it
Tenerife combines naturally with the other Canary Islands. For seven days, pair it with Gran Canaria by ferry or a short flight. Ten days can add Lanzarote or Fuerteventura for volcanic landscapes and long sandy beaches. With fourteen days, add a mainland city such as Madrid, Seville or Malaga by direct flight. We issue the flight and ferry tickets and arrange private transfers at every airport and port, so island hopping feels effortless.
Best time to visit Tenerife and the rhythm of the day
Best months
Tenerife is a year-round destination with spring-like temperatures in every season. March to June and September to November are ideal for hiking, Teide and comfortable beach days. Winter is mild and sunny in the south, though Teide’s summit may be snowy, while July and August are warm and busy with family holidays. February brings the famous Santa Cruz carnival.
The daily rhythm
A Tenerife day often starts early in the mountains or the north, before clouds gather around Teide’s slopes in the afternoon. Lunch around two is a relaxed meal of fresh fish and papas arrugadas in a village restaurant. Afternoons are for the beach or the pool, and evenings begin with a sunset stroll along the promenade, followed by dinner from around eight.
On-the-ground logistics in Tenerife
Arrival
Tenerife has two airports. Tenerife South receives most international flights and is about twenty minutes from Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos. Tenerife North, near La Laguna, handles many inter-island and mainland flights and is about fifteen minutes from Santa Cruz. Our private airport transfer meets you in arrivals with a name sign and takes you straight to your hotel.
Getting around
Resort areas and old towns are pleasant to explore on foot, and Santa Cruz and La Laguna are linked by tram. Public buses cover the island well but can be slow on mountain roads. Licensed taxis are easy to find, while ride-hailing apps are more limited. For Teide, Masca and Anaga, a private car with driver arranged by our team is the most comfortable choice.
Local etiquette tip
The custom many visitors miss is respect for Teide National Park’s fragile environment. Stay on marked paths, never take volcanic rocks as souvenirs and do not hike the final summit trail without the permit, which is limited each day. In towns and churches, cover up when leaving the beach, and greet people with a warm “buenos días” before asking anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask most about Tenerife.
Where should first-time visitors stay in Tenerife?
For sunshine and beaches, stay in Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos on the south-west coast, close to Tenerife South Airport and the ferry to La Gomera. For culture and greener landscapes, choose Puerto de la Cruz or La Orotava in the north. Many travellers split their stay to enjoy both sides of the island.
Can Tenerife be done as a day trip, or does it need an overnight stay?
Tenerife is an island that rewards overnight stays. Visitors on a cruise or a ferry from Gran Canaria can see Santa Cruz, La Laguna or Teide in a single day, but the island’s variety, from volcanic summits to whale-watching cliffs, deserves at least four nights to enjoy without rushing.
What is the dress code and etiquette in Tenerife?
Tenerife is relaxed and casual, but swimwear belongs at the beach and pool. Cover up in towns, shops and restaurants, and dress modestly in churches such as the Basilica of Candelaria. Bring warm layers for Teide, respect the protected national park, and greet locals politely; a little Spanish is always appreciated.
Is Tenerife tourist friendly?
Yes, very. Tenerife has welcomed international visitors for generations, with English widely spoken in resort areas, good roads and a wide choice of hotels. Signage is clear and locals are warm and helpful. Our team is available on WhatsApp to arrange transfers, ferry and cable car tickets and our guided day tours.
Is it safe to travel to Tenerife now?
Tenerife is generally considered a safe and welcoming destination. Follow normal precautions with belongings in busy areas, and respect sea and weather warnings at the beaches. Before departure, check the official travel advice of your own government, and keep our WhatsApp line handy so our team can assist you at any time during your stay.
What are the must-do things in Tenerife?
Ride the Teide cable car and stargaze on the volcanic plateau, explore La Laguna and La Orotava, drive to Masca and see the Los Gigantes cliffs, and watch pilot whales in the wild. Walk the laurel forests of Anaga, eat papas arrugadas with mojo, and take a ferry day trip to La Gomera.
How many days do you need in Tenerife?
Plan five to seven days in Tenerife to enjoy Teide, the north, Masca and Los Gigantes, a ferry trip to La Gomera and some beach time. Four days covers the highlights at a faster pace. Add Gran Canaria or Lanzarote for a longer journey through the Canary Islands.
What can I book in Tenerife with Haqqi Tours?
Day tours, attraction tickets, private airport transfers, flight tickets and ferry tickets, including Surfing Lesson for All Levels with Photos Tenerife, Paragliding Flight with Champion Pilot Tenerife and Teide and Masca Full-Day Jeep Safari Tenerife. Each has its own page, and the WhatsApp desk combines any of them into one plan with one written price.
How do I get from the airport to my hotel in Tenerife?
Tenerife South Airport (TFS), also called Reina Sofia, is the island's main international gateway, about 10 km from El Medano and 20-25 km from Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje, with Santa Cruz around 62 km north-east. Our private transfer meets you at arrivals with a name board, tracks your flight and takes you door to door at a fixed price for the whole vehicle; the transfer pages list every route.
Is there public transport from the airport to Tenerife?
Buses run from both airports, but Tenerife South is 20-25 km from the main resorts and the north is a long drive from the south, with no railway on the island; a private car saves changes, especially with children, and is the honest choice for Los Gigantes, El Medano, Teide or a cruise transfer. With luggage, a family or a late flight, the private car is the simpler choice.
Which tours are available in Tenerife?
Among them: Surfing Lesson for All Levels with Photos Tenerife, Paragliding Flight with Champion Pilot Tenerife, Teide and Masca Full-Day Jeep Safari Tenerife, Horseback Ride with Instructor Tenerife and Masca Gorge Guided Trek and Boat Trip Tenerife. Each page says whether the day is private or small-group, what it includes and how long it lasts.
Are the tours private or in a group?
Both exist, and each tour page says which. A private tour has a vehicle and guide for your party alone; the desk can make most group tours private on request.
How do I book?
Fill in the form on any page or message us on WhatsApp with the date, the number of travellers and the hotel. A member of our team confirms the price and the details in writing within minutes.
Are the prices fixed?
Yes - every price is agreed in writing on WhatsApp before you travel and does not change on the day.
Do the drivers and guides speak Arabic or English?
It depends on the city and the day, so we do not promise a particular language; tell us your preference and we do our best. The WhatsApp desk always works in Arabic and English.
Can I change or cancel a booking in Tenerife?
Yes, in the same WhatsApp conversation. The terms depend on the product and on how close to the date the change comes; the desk states them before you pay.
