Private Driver in Sarajevo: How the Day Works

Booking a private driver in Sarajevo means the car, the driver and the guide are there for your group alone. We collect you from your hotel or apartment at the time you choose, and the day follows your rhythm: more time at the waterfall, a longer coffee stop in Travnik, or a break for prayer or a meal wherever you like.

Travnik, the Old Capital of the Viziers

About an hour and a half north-west of Sarajevo, Travnik was the residence of the Ottoman governors of Bosnia from 1699 to 1850. Walk along its main street to the Many-Coloured Mosque, whose painted façade is unique in the Balkans, and past the old clock towers and covered fountains that recall the town's years as a regional capital.

Climb to Travnik Fortress for a view over the red roofs and the Lašva valley, then rest at the Plava Voda spring, where cold water runs between small cafés. The writer Ivo Andrić, Nobel Prize winner in 1961, was born here, and his birth house is a small museum. With a private car you can stay as long as you like.

Jajce: Royal Fortress and City Waterfall

An hour further on, Jajce rises on a rocky hill where the Pliva river meets the Vrbas. It was the last capital of the medieval Bosnian kingdom, and its walls, gates and fortress still dominate the town. Below the fortress, the rock-cut Catacombs were created as an underground church for a powerful local duke in the late 14th century.

The highlight is the Pliva Waterfall, which drops about 22 metres right in the town centre, one of the few urban waterfalls in the world. A path leads to a platform at its foot, and the viewpoint across the river gives the famous photo of the falls with the old town above. Entrance fees at Jajce are paid on site.

Pliva Lake and the Watermills

Just outside Jajce, the Pliva lakes stretch between wooded hills, their water clear and still. Between the Great and Small lakes stand the Mlinčići, a cluster of small wooden watermills on stilts over the rapids, once used by village families to grind grain and now a protected monument.

Walk the lakeside paths, take a rowing boat in summer or simply enjoy the quiet before the drive back to Sarajevo, about two and a half hours away. Because the car is private, you can time this stop for the soft evening light. A day trip from Sarajevo to Jajce and Travnik by private car is one of the most comfortable ways to see central Bosnia.
