Full Description

The Little Mermaid and the Langelinie waterfront

The tour begins at Langelinie, the harbour promenade on the north side of the city, and one of the first stops is the Little Mermaid, the small bronze statue on a rock in the water. Unveiled in 1913 and inspired by the fairy tale of Hans Christian Andersen, she is the city's best-known symbol. Because the waterfront is a no-car zone, it is a comfortable place to get used to your Segway.

Many visitors ask how to get to the Little Mermaid, and a Segway tour is a fun answer, as the statue is a short ride from the start. Photo stops are built into the tour, so you can take pictures with the harbour behind you without worrying about the crowds.

Kastellet, the Marble Church and Amalienborg Palace

Close to the start stands Kastellet, a star-shaped fortress from the seventeenth century that is still used by the military. You ride through its grounds, which are part of the fun of a Segway tour. Nearby are the Marble Church, with its huge copper dome, and Amalienborg Palace, made up of four matching rococo palaces around a courtyard, where the royal family has its winter residence.

If you want to see Amalienborg Palace, the tour takes you right up to the square. The Changing of the Guard is a well-known ceremony there, but its schedule varies, so ask your guide. The palace square is one of the best places for photographs in Copenhagen.

Nyhavn and the Royal Playhouse

Nyhavn is Copenhagen's most photographed street, a canal lined with brightly painted seventeenth-century townhouses and old wooden ships. Hans Christian Andersen lived in several of its houses. On the tour you cruise along the waterfront with views of the Royal Opera House and the modern Royal Playhouse across the harbour.

The 1-hour tour covers the main monuments from Langelinie to Nyhavn, which makes it a fast and fun way to see the city centre. It is a good choice if you have limited time or are unsure about longer rides.

The longer tour: inner city sights

The 2-hour tour goes further into the inner city and passes the Black Diamond, the Royal Library Garden, Christiansborg Palace, City Hall Square, Tivoli Gardens, the cosy Latin Quarter and Kongens Nytorv. It suits travellers who want to see how the harbour and the old town fit together.

Arrive 15 minutes before the start for check-in and training, where you receive a helmet, sign a waiver, get your radio and meet your guide. You are trained individually on a quiet practice area before you ride. Do not wear high heels, and wear comfortable shoes.
