Full Description

Port d'Alcúdia and the Alcudiamar marina

Port d'Alcúdia is the seaside half of Alcúdia, the historic town in the north of Mallorca whose medieval walls stand a short distance inland. Once a fishing and trading harbour, the port today is a family resort with a long beach, a waterfront promenade and the Alcudiamar marina, where sailing yachts and local fishing boats lie side by side.

Your trip begins at the boat itself, moored in the marina on Dock 7. Please arrive 30 minutes before departure so the crew can welcome everyone and give a 15-minute safety briefing, showing where the life jackets are and how to move around the deck safely under sail. With a maximum of 10 guests on a 19-metre yacht, there is space for everyone to find a favourite spot, in the sun on the foredeck or in the shade of the cockpit.

Sailing across Alcúdia Bay

Alcúdia Bay is the largest bay in Mallorca, a wide arc of sea framed by sandy beaches to the south and the mountains of the Victoria peninsula to the north. Once the sails are raised and the engine is off, the yacht heels gently and you hear only the wind and the water, the best way to feel what sailing in Mallorca is really about.

For about an hour and a half the crew sail along the coast, adjusting the route to the wind. Guests are welcome to take the wheel under the captain's eye, and the most popular moment is sitting on the boom, the long horizontal spar of the mainsail, for a photo high above the water. On clear days you can see the beaches of Playa de Muro and Ca'n Picafort and the hills of Artà far to the east.

Cala Coll Baix, the hidden beach

Cala Coll Baix is one of the most beautiful and least accessible beaches in the north of Mallorca. It lies on the southern side of the Victoria peninsula, enclosed by steep cliffs covered in pine; reaching it on foot means a long drive on a mountain road and then a steep descent of around half an hour on a rough path, so arriving by sea is by far the easiest way.

The beach is made of fine white pebbles, and the water in front of it shades from emerald to deep turquoise. The yacht anchors offshore for about an hour, giving you time to swim, snorkel with the gear provided over the rocky seabed, or simply lie on deck. If you have wondered how to get to Coll Baix without the hike, this Coll Baix boat trip is the answer.

The Victoria peninsula and Cap des Pinar

The Victoria peninsula separates the bays of Alcúdia and Pollença. Its rugged ridge rises to the peaks of Talaia d'Alcúdia and the cliffs of Penya Roja, and the tip of the peninsula, Cap des Pinar, is a protected natural area long used by the military, which has kept it free of development.

From the deck you have the best view of this wild coastline: sheer rock faces, pine forests down to the sea, small caves at the waterline and seabirds riding the wind above the cliffs. The return sail of about an hour and a half follows the coast back towards Port d'Alcúdia, often with the afternoon breeze filling the sails, so you see the peninsula again in a different light.

Tapas, soft drinks and life on board

During the stop at Coll Baix the crew serve tapas on board, small plates of Spanish snacks to share, while unlimited soft drinks and water are available throughout the trip. It is a relaxed, sociable way to enjoy lunch or an afternoon snack at sea without any planning, and the crew are happy to share tips on beaches, villages and viewpoints to visit during the rest of your stay in the north of Mallorca.

There are two departures, at 10:30 and 15:00, and both last four hours. The morning trip usually has calmer water for swimming, while the afternoon trip often enjoys stronger winds for real sailing and warm light on the way back. Bring swimwear, a towel, sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen and flip-flops; high heels are not allowed on deck.
