Overview
This Teide sunset and stargazing tour takes you from the beaches of southern Tenerife up into Teide National Park for an evening above the clouds. Our coach collects you from your hotel or a set stop between Los Gigantes and Los Cristianos in the afternoon, pauses in a traditional mountain village and climbs through the pine forest into the volcanic caldera. You watch the sun go down at about 2,100 metres with a soft drink, enjoy a three-course dinner at a restaurant inside the park, then an astronomer guide reveals the night sky through telescopes. It is a shared group tour in English for couples, friends and families. A second option collects guests from Puerto de la Cruz.

Full Description
Teide National Park and Mount Teide
Teide National Park protects the high heart of Tenerife and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. At its centre rises Mount Teide, a stratovolcano whose summit reaches 3,715 metres, the highest point in Spain. Around it lies Las Cañadas, a vast caldera floor of lava flows, pumice fields and eroded rock towers in shades of black, red and ochre, with the smaller cone of Pico Viejo on its western side.
On this Teide sunset tour the coach spends about two hours in the park, with photo stops chosen by the guide for the light and the views. If you are asking whether Teide National Park is worth visiting, the late afternoon is the best answer: the rock glows gold, the daytime crowds have left and the air is crisp and clear. The summit itself needs a separate permit and is not part of this evening.
Sunset above the Sea of Clouds
On most days a thick layer of cloud settles on the northern slopes of Tenerife between about 1,000 and 1,500 metres. Islanders call it the mar de nubes, the sea of clouds, and it forms when the moist north-east trade winds meet the mountains. From the sunset point at around 2,100 metres you look down on a white ocean that runs to the horizon, with the peaks of La Gomera and La Palma rising out of it.
The sunset stop lasts about 45 minutes and is the moment most guests remember longest. Soft drinks are served as the sky changes from gold to pink, red and violet, and on clear evenings Mount Teide casts a long triangular shadow across the clouds to the east. Sunset times change through the year, so we confirm your exact pickup time after booking.
El Portillo: Dinner inside the National Park
After sunset the coach drives about 20 minutes to El Portillo, the north-eastern gateway of the park at roughly 2,000 metres, where the mountain roads from La Orotava and La Esperanza meet. The area is the realm of the red Teide bugloss, a tall spike of red flowers that blooms in late spring, and for the white-flowered Teide broom that perfumes the air in May and June.
Dinner here lasts about an hour and a half: a three-course meal with drinks at a restaurant inside the national park, served while the last light fades outside. It is a warm and welcome break, because evening temperatures at this altitude drop sharply and can approach freezing in winter. Vegetarian guests can mention their needs when we confirm the booking.
Stargazing in a Starlight Reserve
Tenerife is one of the finest places on Earth for astronomy. A law passed in 1988 limits light pollution on the island, and the high zone around Teide is certified as a Starlight Reserve. At Izaña, on the eastern edge of the park, the Teide Observatory has studied the sun and the night sky since 1964, chosen for its clean, stable air above the clouds.
For about an hour your astronomer guide traces the constellations, the Milky Way and bright planets with a powerful laser pointer, then invites you to the telescopes to look at lunar craters, star clusters or distant nebulae, depending on the season. Stargazing in Tenerife with a telescope is far easier with a guide and a coach, as the park roads are dark and winding at night. A new moon shows the most stars, while a bright moon offers dramatic crater views.
From the South Coast to the Mountain Village
The afternoon starts on the sunny south coast, with pickups between Los Gigantes and Los Cristianos, through resort areas such as Puerto de Santiago, Playa de la Arena, Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas. About 45 minutes later the coach stops in a traditional village in the hills for a 30-minute break, where you can buy coffee and local snacks and stretch your legs among white houses and terraced fields.
From there the road climbs for about an hour through forests of Canary Island pine, a tree whose thick bark lets it survive wildfires and sprout again from its charred trunk. The change of scenery is part of the magic of a Mount Teide night tour: in a short drive you move from palm trees and the Atlantic to bare lava and cool mountain air, then return to your hotel late in the evening.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private experience?
It is a shared group tour by coach with other travellers, led in English by a professional astronomer guide.
How long does it take?
About 9 hours from pickup to drop-off, including roughly two hours in the national park, 45 minutes of sunset, 1.5 hours of dinner and an hour of stargazing.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes. Our coach picks you up from hotels and set stops between Los Gigantes and Los Cristianos, with extra stops in Golf del Sur on Mondays and Fridays. Guests in Puerto de la Cruz can book the north pickup option.
What is included?
Hotel pickup and drop-off, the astronomer guide, photo stops in Teide National Park, soft drinks at sunset, a three-course dinner with drinks inside the park and the guided stargazing session with telescopes and a laser pointer.
Is the price per person or per group?
The price is per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.
Is it suitable for children or travellers with reduced mobility?
Children from 3 years usually enjoy the sunset and the telescopes, though the evening ends late. The tour is not suitable for people with mobility impairments because of uneven volcanic ground and coach access.
What should I bring?
A warm jacket, a hat and long trousers, comfortable closed shoes, a camera and a little cash or a card for the coffee stop.
How cold is it at Teide at night?
Even when the coast is warm, the temperature at 2,000 metres can fall to around 5 to 10 °C in summer evenings and close to freezing in winter, with wind on top.
When is the best time for stargazing on Teide?
The sky is clear on most nights all year. Nights around the new moon show the most stars and the Milky Way, summer brings the brightest band of the galaxy, and winter offers crisp, steady air.
What happens in bad weather?
The sunset point sits above the usual cloud layer, so the tour runs on most days. If snow or storms close the park roads, our team contacts you on WhatsApp to arrange another date.
Can I go to the summit of Mount Teide on this tour?
No. The tour stays at around 2,000 to 2,300 metres. The summit trail needs a separate permit and is usually reached by cable car and on foot during the day.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose your option and date in the booking panel and send your request. Our team confirms your booking and pickup details on WhatsApp within minutes.
