Antalya Aquarium
Antalya Aquarium opened in 2012 in the Konyaaltı district, a short walk from the long pebble beach on the western side of the city. It is one of the largest aquarium complexes in Europe, built around a series of themed galleries that take you from the local waters of the Mediterranean to faraway oceans, reefs and freshwater rivers.
Is Antalya Aquarium worth visiting? For families it is one of the highlights of a stay in Antalya, and adults enjoy it too, especially in the heat of midsummer or on a rare rainy day. Antalya Aquarium opening hours are usually from morning until the evening every day; plan around two to three hours for the aquarium itself.
The Underwater Tunnel and the Themed Tanks
The star of the visit is the great tunnel tank, around 131 metres long, where you walk beneath the water as sharks, stingrays, turtles and large shoals of fish swim above and beside you. Children press against the glass to watch the sharks pass, and the blue light makes it one of the best photo spots in the city.
Before and after the tunnel, themed tanks show the diversity of life underwater: octopus, moray eels, seahorses, jellyfish, colourful reef fish and freshwater species. Information panels explain each habitat. Take your time; there is no guide and no rush, so you can return to your favourite tanks as often as you like before meeting the driver.
Other Attractions in the Complex
The aquarium building also houses separate attractions: Snow World, an indoor snow park kept at sub-zero temperatures; the Ice Museum, with sculptures carved from ice; the Tropical House; and the XD Cinema with motion seats. A wax museum section is also found in the complex. These extras are not part of the standard ticket and can be paid on site if you wish.
