Overview
This Tenerife camel ride is one of the easiest family outings in the south of the island. With the default option a shuttle collects you in Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas and takes you about 10 minutes inland to a small farm in La Camella, in the dry volcanic hills of Arona. There you ride a gentle dromedary for about 20 minutes through the countryside, led by an experienced handler, then meet the farm animals and feed them with a plate of fruit. A digital photo of you on the camel is sent by email, and you finish with snacks and soft drinks on a shaded garden terrace. Simpler options without transport, photo or camel ride are also available.

Full Description
La Camella and the hills of Arona
La Camella is a small rural village in the municipality of Arona, only about 10 minutes by road from the busy resorts of the south coast. The landscape here is typical of southern Tenerife: dry volcanic slopes, prickly pear and cardón cactus, terraces held by old stone walls and wide views down to the Atlantic, with the mountains of Arona rising behind.
It feels a world away from the beach promenades, which is exactly the charm of this camel park in Tenerife. If you are looking for things to do with kids in Tenerife beyond the pool, a morning or early afternoon here combines fresh air, animals and countryside without a long drive.
The camel ride
Camels arrived in the Canary Islands from North Africa in the fifteenth century and for generations they were working animals, ploughing fields and carrying loads, especially on the eastern islands. Today the gentle dromedaries of this farm carry visitors on a ride of about 20 minutes along a countryside track with lovely viewpoints.
An experienced handler leads the camels on foot the whole time, so no riding experience is needed. Children of all ages can ride with an adult, and the slow rocking rhythm of the camel quickly turns any nerves into smiles. With the default option a digital photo of your ride is sent to you by email afterwards.
Meeting and feeding the farm animals
After your ride you meet the other residents of the farm. Every visitor receives a fruit plate to feed the animals, and the staff explain how they are cared for and what each one eats. Goats, donkeys and other farm animals come up to the fences, and children love the chance to see them up close.
This part is included in every option, even the farm-only ticket without a camel ride, which makes it a gentle choice for very small children or anyone who prefers to stay on the ground. Remember that people with animal allergies may not feel comfortable here, and always follow the staff's advice on how to offer the fruit safely.
The garden terrace and the shuttle
With the default option and the photo-and-snacks option, you finish on a shaded garden terrace with snacks and soft drinks, away from the hustle of the coast. It is a relaxed place to sit for a while, look back at your photos and enjoy the quiet of the countryside.
The default option includes the shuttle from Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas, so you do not need a car or a taxi. If you prefer to drive, the cheaper options let you make your own way to the farm, which is about 10 minutes inland from the coast. Our team sends the pickup details or directions with your confirmation.
