Full Description
Puerto Colón marina, the starting point
Puerto Colón is the main marina of Costa Adeje and the hub for sea activities in the south of Tenerife. Its pontoons are lined with sailing boats, catamarans and water-sport boats, and the promenade around it is full of cafés and shops, all within walking distance of the hotels of Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas.
You check in at pontoon 3, where the crew explains how the flight works and fits your life jacket. Please arrive 25 minutes before your departure time, because the boat leaves exactly on schedule. If you are staying further away, a taxi or local bus to Puerto Colón is easy from anywhere on the south coast.
The parasailing flight
The boat used for this activity is specially designed for parasailing, with a hydraulic winch and a platform at the back. You are clipped into a harness under a large, colourful canopy, and as the boat gathers speed the winch lets out the line so you rise smoothly from the deck, without getting wet on take-off.
At the top you float up to 100 metres above the sea, in near silence, for about 10 minutes. It is calm rather than extreme, and many people are surprised how peaceful it feels. At the end the winch draws you back in and you land gently on the same deck. The rest of the boat time is spent watching the others fly.
Playa de las Américas and Playa Las Vistas from above
From the air the shape of the south coast becomes clear. Playa de las Américas stretches along a promenade of hotels and palm trees, its dark volcanic sand broken by breakwaters, while further east the long golden curve of Playa Las Vistas joins Los Cristianos, with its harbour and ferry quay.
Seeing the resorts from above helps you understand how close everything is, and many travellers use the view to choose which beach to visit next. Behind the coast the dry volcanic hills rise towards the centre of the island, and on clear days you can make out the peak of Mount Teide above them, the highest mountain in Spain.
Playa de Troya and the coast of Adeje
Closer to the marina lies Playa de Troya, one of the most popular beaches of Costa Adeje, with soft sand, calm water protected by breakwaters and a lively promenade. To the north the coastline continues towards Torviscas, Fañabé and Playa del Duque, a ribbon of beaches and gardens that you can follow with your eyes from the sky.
Out to sea, the island of La Gomera rises from the Atlantic about 30 kilometres away, often crowned with clouds. Between Tenerife and La Gomera the deep water is where resident pilot whales and dolphins live; they are not part of this activity, but sometimes boats spot them on the way, so keep your eyes on the water during the ride back.
Best time for parasailing in Tenerife
The south of Tenerife enjoys sunshine and mild temperatures all year, so parasailing in Costa Adeje is possible in every season. Morning flights usually have the calmest sea and the clearest views of La Gomera, while the afternoon light is warmer for photos.
The crew checks the wind and sea before every departure. If conditions are not safe, the flight is cancelled or moved, and we help you choose another time or refund you. Bring sunglasses with a strap and biodegradable sunscreen, and wear beachwear or light clothes that can get a little wet. A phone strap or a small waterproof pouch is useful if you want to film your flight.
