Overview

This is a small-group cruise on a luxury yacht along the Bosphorus, about 2.5 hours long, with an English-speaking live guide and Turkish tea, coffee, pastries, snacks and fruit served on board. The default option meets at Dolmabahçe Mosque by the Kabataş tram stop at 10:30 or 13:15 and takes you past Dolmabahçe Palace, Ortaköy, the Bosphorus Bridge, Bebek, Rumeli Fortress and the second bridge, then along the Asian shore past Beylerbeyi Palace, with a 20-minute stop at Beylerbeyi or Kanlıca before returning via Üsküdar and the Maiden's Tower. A second option adds round-trip hotel transfer; a third makes the yacht private for up to 10 guests for 2 hours. It suits couples, families with children from age 4 and anyone who prefers a calm yacht to a crowded ferry.

Full Description

Boarding at Dolmabahçe and the first palaces

The cruise starts at the waterfront of Dolmabahçe Mosque, the small baroque mosque beside Dolmabahçe Palace on the Kabataş–Beşiktaş shore, three minutes from the Kabataş stop of the T1 tram and the funicular down from Taksim. Our staff wait with a signboard 15 minutes before the 10:30 or 13:15 departure and walk you to the yacht. From the deck the first sight is the 600-metre marble facade of Dolmabahçe Palace, the residence of the last Ottoman sultans, with its ceremonial sea gates and clock tower.

Past Beşiktaş the guide points out the Çırağan Palace, the ferry piers and the stadium on the shore, while the yacht settles into its unhurried pace. There are seats inside the lounge and on the open deck, and you can move freely between them; tea is served from the start. Is a Bosphorus yacht cruise worth it compared with the public ferry? Our Istanbul team says yes when you want narration, space to move and the chance to step ashore, which no ferry offers.

Ortaköy, the Bosphorus Bridge, Arnavutköy and Bebek

Ortaköy is the first picture-postcard moment: the ornate 19th-century Ortaköy Mosque stands on a tiny square at the water's edge directly under the Bosphorus Bridge, so the yacht gives you the mosque and the suspension bridge in one frame. The 1973 bridge links Europe to Asia and is the gateway to the wider, greener upper Bosphorus. Keep your camera ready on the open deck as the yacht passes beneath the deck of the bridge.

Beyond it the European shore becomes a line of wooden waterside mansions called yalı, the summer houses of Ottoman pashas and merchants, with the villages of Arnavutköy and Bebek set in bays below wooded hills. Bebek has one of the most sought-after shorelines in Istanbul, with cafés, a small park and sailing boats at anchor, and the guide explains who built which mansion and how the Bosphorus has shaped the city's trade and defence for centuries.

Rumeli Fortress and the second bridge

Rumeli Fortress rises on the European shore at the narrowest point of the strait, where the Bosphorus is only about 700 metres wide. It was built in 1452 in a few months by Sultan Mehmed II to control shipping before the conquest of Constantinople the following year, and faces the older Anadolu Hisarı fortress across the water on the Asian side. From the yacht you see its three great towers and the walls stepping down the hillside, a view much better than from the road.

Just beyond it the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, the second Bosphorus crossing from 1988, marks the turning point of the cruise. The yacht passes under it and swings across to the Asian shore, which is the quietest stretch of the route and a good time for the Turkish coffee and pastries. Best time to visit the Bosphorus by yacht is a clear morning for sharp light on the fortress, or the 13:15 departure for warmer colours on the return.

Anadolu Hisarı, Kanlıca and the stop at Beylerbeyi

Heading back on the Asian side the yacht passes Anadolu Hisarı, the small fortress of 1395 at the mouth of the Göksu stream, then the village of Kanlıca, famous across Istanbul for its thick yoghurt served with powdered sugar in the waterfront cafés. The 20-minute stop ashore is at Beylerbeyi or Kanlıca, depending on the day: enough time to walk the quiet streets, taste the local treat and see the Bosphorus from the shore rather than the deck.

Beylerbeyi Palace, the summer palace of the sultans from 1865, sits under the Asian foot of the Bosphorus Bridge with its white marble sea pavilions and terraced gardens; the yacht passes slowly along its facade. The palace is closed on Mondays and needs its own ticket, which is not included, but the view from the water is the one most travellers want. The stop is short, so stay close to the quay and listen for our staff.

Üsküdar and the Maiden's Tower, then back to Dolmabahçe

The last part of the route follows the Asian shore through Kuzguncuk, with its pastel wooden houses, to Üsküdar, the old ferry town facing the historic peninsula, with the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque by the pier. Just offshore stands the Maiden's Tower on its islet, the small white lighthouse-tower that appears in every Istanbul postcard; the guide tells the legends attached to it as you pass. Across the water the domes and minarets of Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque line the skyline.

The yacht then recrosses to Dolmabahçe, where the cruise ends about 2.5 hours after departure. From the pier you can walk to Dolmabahçe Palace, take the tram to Sultanahmet or the funicular up to Taksim. If you booked the hotel-transfer option, the vehicle drops you at one of eight central points; with the private option, your own yacht follows a 2-hour route from a start time you choose between 08:00 and 14:00.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

Is this a shared or a private experience?

The default option is a small-group cruise shared with other guests on the yacht; the third option makes the same yacht private for your group of up to 10 for 2 hours.

How long does the Bosphorus yacht cruise take?

About 2.5 hours including the 20-minute stop ashore; the private option lasts 2 hours. Add transfer time if you choose hotel pickup.

Is hotel pickup included?

Not in the default option, which meets at Dolmabahçe Mosque. The second option includes round-trip transfer from central European-side hotels.

What is included?

The yacht cruise, an English-speaking live guide, the stop on the Asian side, snacks, savoury pastries, seasonal fruit, Turkish coffee with Turkish delight and unlimited Turkish tea; transfers only in the pickup option.

Is the price per person or per group?

Per person for the two shared options and per yacht for the private option; the booking panel on this page shows the current price of each.

Is it suitable for children and for reduced mobility?

Children from age 4 have their own price and infants travel free; boarding involves a few steps from the quay, so tell us about mobility needs and we will advise.

Where exactly does the yacht stop on the Asian side?

At Beylerbeyi or Kanlıca, depending on the day and the quay available; both are quiet waterfront villages where you can walk for 20 minutes and taste a local treat.

What should I bring?

Sun protection, a camera, a light jacket for the deck and your phone with WhatsApp active for the pin and any updates.

Which departure is best, 10:30 or 13:15?

The morning has the clearest light on the fortresses and palaces; the afternoon cruise returns with warmer colours and is easier to combine with a Sultanahmet morning.

What happens in bad weather?

The yacht has an enclosed lounge, so light rain does not stop the cruise; in strong wind we may move you to another departure or day and tell you on WhatsApp.

Does the cruise pass under both Bosphorus bridges?

Yes. It passes under the Bosphorus Bridge at Ortaköy and turns at the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge beyond Rumeli Fortress.

How do I book and confirm?

Choose your date and option on this page; our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes and sends the meeting-point pin or your pickup time.
