Overview
Swap the beach towel for the open sea on a jet ski ride off Barcelona's coast. After check-in at the water-sports base in Port Fòrum marina, an instructor gives you a full safety briefing and shows you how to drive, then you head out on the Mediterranean with sea views back to the city's modern seafront and long sandy beaches. No licence or previous experience is needed, and each jet ski carries a driver and one passenger, who can swap places if both meet the driving rules. The default option is a one-hour ride, with 40- and 20-minute options too. Life jackets and wetsuits are included; there is no hotel pickup.

Full Description
Port Fòrum marina – your water-sports base
Port Fòrum, also called the port of Sant Adrià, sits at the north-east end of Barcelona's seafront, where the long promenade from Barceloneta meets the wide esplanade built for the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures. The marina is a hub for sailing, paddle boarding and motor sports, and its sheltered basin makes it a safe place to learn before heading into open water. The giant angled solar pergola on the esplanade is one of the area's most photographed landmarks.
Your session starts here at the jet-ski base: check in with your ID, sign the forms, leave the refundable deposit and put on your life jacket. Arrive 15 minutes early so the briefing does not eat into your ride time. Getting to Port Fòrum is easy: metro line L4 to El Maresme | Fòrum, then a short walk, or the tram along Avinguda Diagonal to the Fòrum stop.
The jet ski ride off the Barcelona coast
Once on the water you feel the speed and freedom that make jet skiing one of the most popular things to do in Barcelona by the sea. Under the eye of your instructor you ride in the area set for the session, carving turns across the waves and opening the throttle on the straights, with the city spread out along the shore. The jet skis used need no licence, so beginners get going quickly after the briefing.
Each jet ski is booked as one unit for up to two people, a driver and a passenger at least 1.30 metres tall. If both of you meet the driving rules you can swap during the ride. The one-hour option gives the most time to build confidence and enjoy the views, while 40 or 20 minutes is a short burst of adrenaline that fits easily into a beach day.
Barcelona's skyline and beaches from the sea
From the water, Barcelona looks completely different. Behind you rise the modern towers of the Diagonal Mar and Sant Martí districts, and to the south-west the beaches of Nova Mar Bella, Mar Bella, Bogatell and Nova Icària stretch towards the Olympic Port and Barceloneta. On clear days the green ridge of Collserola frames the city, and the morning or midday light makes the sea glow deep blue.
These beaches were created for the 1992 Olympic Games, when the old industrial waterfront was opened to the sea, and today they are where locals swim, play volleyball and walk on the promenade. Seeing them from a jet ski is one of the best ways to understand how close Barcelona lives to the Mediterranean.
Safety, rules and what to expect
Safety comes first: before starting, the instructor explains the controls, the riding area, how to turn and stop, and what to do if you fall in. Life jackets are compulsory for everyone and wetsuits are provided when the water is cool. Drivers must be 18 or older, or 16 and over with written authorisation from a legal guardian, and every participant must carry a valid passport or ID card.
Pregnant women and people under 1.30 metres cannot take part. The activity depends on sea and weather conditions, and if the sea is unsafe the ride is rescheduled or refunded. After the ride you can rinse off at the outdoor shower before continuing your day, so bring a change of clothes and a towel.
