Overview

This Bosphorus dinner cruise is for travellers who want the view, not a seat behind someone else's. Your party has a guaranteed private table beside the window, so from the first meze to the last dance you are looking straight out at the illuminated palaces, bridges and waterfront mansions of Istanbul. The yacht leaves the Cibali pier on the Golden Horn at 20:30, passes under the Galata Bridge and sails the European and Asian shores for about three hours while you enjoy a multi-course Turkish dinner with unlimited soft drinks and a live programme of whirling dervishes, Anatolian folk dances and an oriental dance show. It is a shared evening cruise; the default option adds hotel pickup and drop-off in central Istanbul, and a meet-at-the-pier option is available.

Highlights

  • Guaranteed private window-side table for your party on every booking
  • Departure from the Golden Horn, so you also sail past Galata Bridge and Galataport

  • Unlimited soft drinks, water, Turkish coffee and tea; halal and vegetarian menus
  • Whirling dervish performance, regional folk dances and a DJ to finish
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in central Istanbul on the default option

Full Description

Cibali pier and the Golden Horn

The evening begins on the Golden Horn, the sheltered inlet that divides the old city from Galata. The yacht boards at the Cibali pier in Fatih, beside a university campus housed in a restored tobacco factory, and this departure point is the reason the route is longer than most Bosphorus dinner cruises: before you even reach the strait you glide past the Eminönü and Karaköy piers, under the Galata Bridge with its fishermen and restaurants, and along the new Galataport cruise terminal.

Our Istanbul team recommends arriving a little early if you choose the meet-at-the-pier option; the walk along the Golden Horn shore from Eminönü takes about fifteen minutes and is lovely at dusk, with the Süleymaniye Mosque above you. With the hotel-transfer option, an air-conditioned vehicle brings you here from central Istanbul. Boarding is from 20:00 and the cruise departs at 20:30.

Dolmabahçe Palace and Çırağan Palace

Once the yacht turns into the Bosphorus, the first great sight on the European shore is Dolmabahçe Palace, the nineteenth-century residence of the last Ottoman sultans. Its 600-metre marble facade, built on land reclaimed from the water, is floodlit at night and looks even grander from the water than from the street, with the clock tower and the mosque at its southern end. Seeing Dolmabahçe Palace from the Bosphorus at night is one of the classic Istanbul views.

A few minutes later comes Çırağan Palace, another sultan's residence from the 1860s, rebuilt as a luxury hotel after a fire and lit in warm gold at night. Between the two palaces lie the Beşiktaş ferry pier and the stadium, so this stretch of shore is busy and bright. Your window table faces the European shore on the way out, which is why we suggest keeping the camera ready from the start.

Ortaköy Mosque and the Bosphorus Bridge

Ortaköy is the picture everybody wants from a Bosphorus cruise at night: the small baroque Ortaköy Mosque standing right on the water with the Bosphorus Bridge rising behind it. The bridge, officially the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, was opened in 1973 as the first road link between Europe and Asia, and its cables are lit in slowly changing colours after dark. The yacht slows here and most guests go up to the open deck for photos.

Ortaköy itself is a lively square of cafés and kumpir stalls on the European shore; you do not stop, but you see it close enough to plan a visit for another evening. Passing beneath the bridge is the moment the show often pauses, because everyone is at the windows. The illuminated waterfront mansions called yalıs line the shore beyond, many of them wooden Ottoman houses that are now private residences.

Rumeli Fortress and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge

Further north the shore narrows and the floodlit walls of Rumeli Fortress climb the hillside. The Ottomans built this fortress in 1452, in just a few months, to control the narrowest point of the Bosphorus before the conquest of Constantinople the following year. Its three great towers and the long curtain walls are dramatic from the water at night, and directly across the strait stands the older Anatolian Fortress on the Asian shore.

Just beyond is the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, the second Bosphorus crossing, opened in 1988 and named after the conqueror of the city. This is the turning point of the cruise: the yacht swings around beneath the bridge and begins the return along the Asian shore, so the window tables on the other side of the saloon now get the best view. Dinner is usually being served during this stretch, with the entertainment programme following.

Beylerbeyi Palace and the Maiden's Tower

On the way back you follow the Asian side of the Bosphorus, quieter and darker than the European shore, with Beylerbeyi Palace as its highlight. This white summer palace from the 1860s stands directly beside the Bosphorus Bridge in Üsküdar and was used by the sultans to host visiting royalty; from the water you see its marble landing stages and the two bathing pavilions at either end of the garden.

The last landmark before the yacht returns to the Golden Horn is the Maiden's Tower, the little lighthouse on a rock off Üsküdar that has stood in various forms since Byzantine times and is lit like a lantern at night. By now the folk dancers have finished and the DJ is playing, with the whole saloon on its feet. The cruise ends at the Cibali pier at about 23:30, where the transfer vehicles wait for guests with hotel drop-off.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.

Is this a shared or a private experience?

It is a shared evening cruise on a large yacht, but your party has its own reserved table directly beside a window, guaranteed with every booking. You never share the table with other groups.

How long does the cruise take?

About three hours on the water, from the 20:30 departure to around 23:30 at the Cibali pier. With hotel transfers, allow roughly five hours from pickup to drop-off.

Is hotel pickup included?

Yes on the default option, which includes pickup and drop-off in central Istanbul between 19:00 and 20:00. The second option is cheaper and you meet the yacht at the pier yourself.

What is included in the dinner?

Six cold Turkish mezes, a hot starter, a main course of your choice (fish fillet, mixed grill or a vegetarian dish) and seasonal fruit, with unlimited soft drinks and water, then Turkish coffee and tea.

Is the price per person or per group?

Per person, with a reduced child rate for ages 4 to 7. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.

Where does the boat leave from?

From the Cibali pier on the Golden Horn in Fatih, not from Kabataş or Eminönü. That is why the route also includes the Galata Bridge and Galataport before the Bosphorus itself.

What sights do we see from the water?

Galata Bridge, Galataport, Dolmabahçe and Çırağan palaces, Ortaköy Mosque, the Bosphorus Bridge, Rumeli Fortress, the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, Beylerbeyi Palace and the Maiden's Tower, all illuminated.

Is it suitable for children and people with reduced mobility?

Families are welcome and children enjoy the folk dances and the dervish. The yacht is not accessible for wheelchair users because of the stairs and gangway.

What should I bring and wear?

Your confirmation on your phone, a camera and a light jacket for the open deck. Smart-casual clothing is the norm; there is no strict dress code.

What happens in bad weather?

The cruise sails in rain, since dinner and the show are inside the saloon. In unusual conditions the departure pier may change and our team tells you on the day.

What is the best time of year for a Bosphorus dinner cruise?

Every season works because the landmarks are floodlit all year; summer evenings are warm enough for the open deck, while spring and autumn give clearer skies and fewer crowds.

How do I book and confirm?

Choose your option and date on this page and send the request; our Istanbul team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes with your pickup time or the pier details.
