Marmaris Harbour and the pirate ship

The day begins in Marmaris, a busy resort set in one of the most sheltered natural bays of the Turkish coast, surrounded by pine-covered mountains. From the harbour you board a large pirate-themed ship with black flags, rigging and wooden decks, a sight that excites children before the trip has even started.

As the ship leaves the bay you pass the marina and the old town, with its small castle on the hill, before heading out along the coast. On board, an entertainment team runs interactive games, dance sessions and pirate-themed activities. Children can join a treasure hunt and have their faces painted, and later in the day everyone is invited to the foam party on deck. Aquarium Bay: swimming and snorkelling

The first swim stop is usually Aquarium Bay, named for its crystal-clear water where you can see the seabed and the fish from the deck. Shoals of small fish gather around the rocks, and the shallow edges are perfect for snorkelling, so bring a mask if you have one.

The boat anchors long enough for several swims, and you can jump from the deck or use the ladder. The water is calmest in the morning, which is why most Marmaris boat trips stop here early. Aquarium Bay is one of the best places near Marmaris for a first snorkel, and children enjoy spotting fish right next to the boat. The Phosphorus Cave (Wishing Cave)

Next the ship sails to the Phosphorus Cave, a sea cave in the cliffs where sunlight reflected from the seabed makes the water glow a vivid, almost luminous blue. It is one of the most photographed spots on a boat trip from Marmaris, and the colour is most intense when the sun is high.

The cave is also known as the Wishing Cave: local tradition says that tossing a coin into the water and making a wish brings good luck. Strong swimmers can swim into the cave when the sea is calm, while others enjoy the view from the boat. The stop is short but memorable, and the crew explains the best way to approach the cave safely.

Kumlubük Bay and the village of Turunç

In the afternoon the ship anchors at Kumlubük Bay, a quiet stretch of coast with clear, calm water and green hills of pine and olive behind it. It is an ideal spot for a long swim or simply sunbathing on deck after lunch, which is served on board as a BBQ.

The trip also visits Turunç, a charming small resort that grew from a fishing village south of Marmaris. Here you can stroll along the seafront, browse shops selling handmade souvenirs, spices and textiles, or relax in a cafe by the beach.
