Overview
Burj Khalifa The Lounge tickets take you higher than the standard observation decks, to levels 152, 153 and 154 of the world's tallest building. After an express security check, a high-speed lift carries you to a calm, elegant lounge where you sit by floor-to-ceiling windows, step onto an outdoor terrace at 575 metres and enjoy gourmet canapés, desserts, one welcome drink and unlimited tea, coffee and soft drinks. Plan about two hours, plus the construction exhibition on the ground floor. This is a timed entry ticket, not a guided tour, so you explore at your own pace. Full Description
Burj Khalifa, the World's Tallest Building
Rising 828 metres above Downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa opened in January 2010 after about six years of construction and still holds the title of the tallest building on earth. Its Y-shaped plan was inspired by the petals of a desert lily, and the three wings step back in a spiral as they climb, which helps the tower shed the strong coastal winds. The silver facade of reflective glass and stainless steel catches the light differently at every hour.
For most travellers, Burj Khalifa tickets are the first thing they book in Dubai, and the question is which level to choose. The lower decks are busy and standing-only, while The Lounge offers seating, refreshments and far fewer people. So is Burj Khalifa worth visiting at this level? If you want time to enjoy the view rather than queue for a spot at the glass, the answer is yes.
The Lounge on Levels 152, 153 and 154
The Lounge spreads across three floors near the top of the occupied tower, at about 585 metres. Interiors are deliberately calm: pearlescent wall panels, black granite floors and brushed steel frame the windows, so nothing competes with the view. Level 152 is the main seating floor, where staff bring canapés, desserts and your welcome drink, with tea, coffee and soft drinks served as often as you like.
Climb to level 154 to see the striking three-storey staircase that hangs from the ceiling frame, wrapped around a fountain of lit water jets, a nod to the role of fountains in Arabic architecture. Allow around 45 minutes to an hour to sit, eat and watch the city below. Many guests time their visit so the light changes from daylight to sunset while they are inside.
The Outdoor Terrace at 575 Metres
The highlight of this ticket is the open-air terrace, one of the highest outdoor viewpoints anywhere. Standing outside at 575 metres, you feel the wind and hear the city go quiet beneath you. On clear days you can follow the towers of Sheikh Zayed Road towards the coast, spot the fronds of Palm Jumeirah and look east over the edge of the desert, while the Dubai Fountain lake shines directly below.
The best time to visit Burj Khalifa is the late-afternoon slot that overlaps with sunset, when the sky turns orange and the city lights switch on one district at a time. From November to March the air is usually clearest; in the summer months a light haze can soften long-distance views. Terrace access depends on wind and weather on the day.
Downtown Dubai and Practical Tips
Burj Khalifa stands at the centre of Downtown Dubai, beside the Dubai Fountain, Burj Khalifa Lake and the Dubai Opera. How to get to Burj Khalifa: take the red metro line to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station and follow the covered link bridge into the mall, which can take up to 20 minutes on foot, or ask a taxi for the Dubai Mall and walk to the Lower Ground floor.
Burj Khalifa opening hours run from morning until late evening, with timed slots shown in the booking panel. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before your slot to collect tickets and pass security. After your visit, stay for the Dubai Fountain show on the lake, which runs every half hour in the evening, and stroll the waterfront promenade for photos of the tower lit from below.
