Downtown Dubai: Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall
Downtown Dubai is the city's showpiece district, built around the 828-metre Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and the Dubai Mall, one of the largest shopping centres on the planet. Between them lies Burj Lake, where the Dubai Fountain performs its shows to music at set times in the afternoon and every evening.
Hop off here to visit the observation decks, the Dubai Aquarium or the fountain promenade. Burj Khalifa tickets and attraction entries are not included in the bus ticket, so book them separately and plan your time slot around the bus timetable. Allow at least two to three hours in Downtown.
Old Dubai: Dubai Creek and the Souks
The bus route also takes you to where Dubai began, along Dubai Creek. In Bur Dubai, the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood preserves wind-tower houses from the late 19th century, and the Old Souk sells textiles and souvenirs under a wooden roof.
From here you can cross the creek on a traditional abra water taxi, a short and very cheap ride, to reach the Deira Gold Souk and Spice Souk, two of the most visited markets in the Middle East. Visiting the old Dubai souks in the late afternoon is best, when the heat eases and the shops are at their liveliest.
Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah
Heading west along the coast, the bus passes Jumeirah, with its beaches, villas and views of the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab. Further on, Dubai Marina is a forest of residential towers around a canal, with a waterfront walk lined with cafés, and the Dubai Marina Mall stop gives easy access to the promenade and JBR beach.
The route also reaches Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis The Palm, the pink resort at the tip of the famous palm-shaped island. It is a long way between these areas and Old Dubai, so the bus is a practical and comfortable way to link them in one day without negotiating taxis.
The Sunset and Night Tour
