Full Description
Dubai Marina canal: where the cruise begins
Dubai Marina is a man-made canal city carved out of the desert coast in the early 2000s, a winding waterway about 3 km long lined by residential towers, restaurants and the waterfront promenade. Cruising its length is the best way to grasp the scale of the place: the towers rise on both banks, some of them twisting as they climb, and yachts of every size are moored along the pontoons.
A Dubai Marina yacht tour at sunset sees the canal at its prettiest, with the glass reflecting orange light and the promenade lamps coming on as you head back. Expect about 45 minutes of the cruise inside the canal across the outward and return legs. The water here is calm, so this part is comfortable for everyone, including guests nervous about the open sea.
JBR waterfront and Ain Dubai
Leaving the Marina mouth, the yacht turns along Jumeirah Beach Residence, known simply as JBR: a long row of residential towers behind a wide public beach and The Walk, a busy promenade of cafes and shops. From the water you see the whole beachfront at once, something impossible from the sand.
Just offshore stands Ain Dubai, an observation wheel about 250 m tall on Bluewaters Island, among the largest ever built. Its white spokes catch the sunset light and make the classic photo of this cruise. Our captain slows down here for about 15 minutes so you can take pictures from the upper deck before continuing along the coast towards the open water and the islands.
Bluewaters Island
Bluewaters is a reclaimed island linked to JBR by a pedestrian bridge, with the wheel, low-rise apartments, a retail strip and restaurants with terraces facing the sea. From the yacht you pass close to its marina and breakwater and look back at the Marina towers framed by the island, one of the best angles of the evening.
If you plan to explore later on foot, Bluewaters is an easy walk from JBR across the bridge, and it is liveliest after dark when the wheel is lit. During the cruise it is a pass-by of about 15 minutes, a good moment to step inside the air-conditioned lower deck for your light meal before the sun dips.
Palm Jumeirah and the Burj Al Arab coastline
Palm Jumeirah is the palm-shaped island built from reclaimed sand from 2001, with a trunk, fronds lined with villas and an outer crescent that acts as a breakwater. The yacht runs along the outside of the crescent towards its famous arched resort at the tip, for about 30 minutes of the cruise, the stretch where the open sea and the setting sun give the best light.
When the sea is rough, the captain takes the alternative route south along the Jumeirah coast towards the Burj Al Arab, the sail-shaped tower standing on its own island since 1999. Either way you see one of the defining outlines of the Dubai coast at golden hour, then turn back to the Marina as the city lights come on.
Light bites and life on board
The yacht has an air-conditioned lower deck with seating and toilets and an open upper deck where most guests spend the sunset. The light meal comes in vegetarian or non-vegetarian versions, with BBQ items in the cooler months, and soft drinks and chilled water are unlimited throughout. Music plays on board and the crew are happy to take photos for you.
Other options on this page include a 1.5-hour afternoon cruise with a meal box, a 2-hour BBQ dinner cruise, a 1-hour Marina and Ain Dubai cruise without food, and private 1-hour and 2-hour yacht hire for your own group. If you are looking for things to do in Dubai Marina before dinner, the sunset departure is the most popular choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private experience?
The default option is a shared yacht cruise: you join other guests on board. If you want the whole yacht for your group, choose one of the private 1-hour or 2-hour options on this page.
How long does it take?
The sunset cruise lasts 2 hours on the water, from the 5:00 PM departure. Allow 20 extra minutes for check-in at the marina gate.
Is hotel pickup included?
No. You meet the crew at a marina gate in the Dubai Marina and Dubai Harbour area. We send the exact gate the day before.
What is included?
The 2-hour cruise, licensed captain and crew, a light meal (vegetarian or non-vegetarian), unlimited soft drinks and chilled water, music, life jackets and help with photos.
Is the price per person or per group?
The shared sunset cruise is priced per person, while the private yacht options are priced for the whole yacht. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.
Is it suitable for children or guests with reduced mobility?
Children are welcome with an adult, and life jackets are on board. The yacht has steps and narrow passages, so it is not suitable for wheelchair users.
What should I bring?
Your passport or ID, sunglasses, a phone or camera and a light jacket in winter. Shoes stay at the boarding point, so slip-on footwear is easiest.
When is the best time for a sunset cruise in Dubai?
October to April brings mild evenings and clear light, ideal for the upper deck. In summer the sea breeze helps, and the air-conditioned lower deck is always there if it feels hot.
What happens in bad weather?
If the sea is rough, the captain takes the calmer Burj Al Arab route. If the coast guard does not issue a sailing permit, we offer you another date.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose your date and option in the booking panel. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes and sends the gate details before the cruise.
Will I see Ain Dubai and Palm Jumeirah?
Yes, the route passes Ain Dubai, Bluewaters Island and JBR, then runs along the Palm Jumeirah crescent, unless sea conditions require the Burj Al Arab route.
Can I get seasick on this cruise?
The Marina canal is calm, and the open sea along the coast is usually gentle in the evening. If you are sensitive, take your usual remedy before boarding and stay on the lower deck near the centre of the yacht.
