Full Description

Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai at night

Burj Khalifa rises 828 metres above Downtown Dubai, and at night its facade becomes a column of light that can be seen from across the city. Your guide explains how the tower was built, why its shape was inspired by a desert flower, and how Downtown grew around it from empty land in only a few years.

The district is at its liveliest in the evening, when the promenades around the lake and the large mall beside the tower fill with visitors. Seeing Burj Khalifa at night from the ground is free and spectacular, and this Dubai night tour brings you there twice: at the start for the view, and at the end for the fountain show.

Burj Al Arab lit against the night sky

Burj Al Arab, the 321-metre sail-shaped tower on its own island off the Jumeirah coast, is beautifully lit after sunset, often in changing colours. The tour stops where you can photograph it from the shore, with the sound of the waves and the warm evening air, a very different view from the classic daytime picture.

Your guide shares the story of the tower and of Jumeirah, the coastal district where fishermen once lived and where some of the most expensive villas in Dubai now stand. Bring a phone with night mode or a small tripod if you like photography, as the lights reward a steady hand. The beach here is quieter at night, which makes it a calm pause between the busier stops.

Dubai Marina waterfront walk

Dubai Marina is a man-made canal district framed by glass skyscrapers, and the Marina Walk promenade is one of the best places in the city to feel the evening atmosphere. On this part of the night city tour you walk with your guide along the water, past cafes, yachts and illuminated towers reflected in the canal.

It is a relaxed stroll on a flat path, easy for most visitors, and gives you time for photos and to ask questions about life in Dubai. If you have visited the Marina by day, the night view is a completely different experience, with the towers lit in white, blue and gold. Your guide also points out where to come back later for dinner by the water.

Palm Jumeirah by night

Palm Jumeirah is the palm-shaped island reclaimed from the sea, with a trunk lined with towers and fronds lined with villas, protected by a crescent breakwater. At night the drive along the trunk shows the lit-up towers and resorts, and the guide explains how the island was built from sand dredged from the seabed.

The van follows the trunk towards the crescent, where the famous arched resort glows at the tip. This is a scenic drive rather than a long stop, so keep your camera ready at the window. It completes the picture of new Dubai before the tour heads back to Downtown for the final show. On the private option you can ask the driver to pause for a photo where it is safe to stop.

The Dubai Fountain show

The Dubai Fountain sits in the lake at the foot of Burj Khalifa and is one of the largest choreographed fountains in the world. Its jets shoot water as high as a 50-storey building, moving to Arabic, classical and world music, with powerful lights that make every show different. Evening shows run about every half hour.

Watching the Dubai Fountain show from the lakeside promenade is free, and your guide leads you to a good viewing spot in time for the show. The shared tour ends here in Downtown Dubai, so you can stay for dinner, shopping or more shows and return to your hotel on your own. With the private option, the van takes you back to your hotel.
