Overview
Have your own car and professional driver at your disposal in Dubai and move around the city on your terms. With the default full-day option, our English-speaking driver picks you up at your hotel or any address in Dubai and stays with you for up to 10 hours: Burj Khalifa and Downtown, the souks of Old Dubai, the Jumeirah beaches, the Palm and Dubai Marina, malls, meetings or family visits, in the order you choose. This is a private service for your group only, in an air-conditioned vehicle with bottled water. There is no guide on board, so you plan the stops and the driver handles traffic and parking. Full Description
Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa
Most full-day hires start in Downtown Dubai, the district around Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world at 828 metres. Your driver drops you at the entrance for the observation decks, by the Dubai Fountain lake or at the huge mall at the tower's foot, then waits nearby so you are not walking in the midday heat. The fountain show runs every half hour in the evening and is free to watch from the promenade.
Nearby, on Sheikh Zayed Road, the Museum of the Future stands out with its silver ring shape and Arabic calligraphy windows, while the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park offers a glass bridge between old and new Dubai. With a car and driver, linking these three sights takes minutes instead of long taxi queues. Book Burj Khalifa tickets in advance for sunset slots, which sell out first.
Old Dubai: Al Fahidi, the Creek and the Souks
Ask your driver to take you to Bur Dubai and the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, a quarter of sand-coloured houses with wind towers, quiet lanes, small museums, art galleries and heritage houses where you can stop for local coffee. From here a short walk leads to the waterfront of Dubai Creek, where traditional wooden abras ferry people across to Deira for a single coin.
On the Deira side, the Gold Souk, the Spice Souk and the Perfume Souk fill a few lively streets with jewellery, saffron, dried limes and incense. This is the best part of any Dubai sightseeing day for many visitors, and having a private driver means you can be dropped on one bank and collected on the other. Allow about 2 to 3 hours; mornings and late afternoons are cooler.
Jumeirah Beach Road and the Coast
Jumeirah Beach Road runs along the shore past villas, cafés and public beaches. Popular stops include Jumeirah Mosque, a white stone mosque that welcomes visitors on short cultural tours, the open sand of Kite Beach with its running track and food trucks, and the photo spot at Jumeirah Public Beach facing the sail-shaped tower on its own island.
Further along, the Madinat Jumeirah area recreates an old desert trading town with canals, wind towers and a covered souk, lovely in the evening light. A car and driver in Dubai is ideal for this coastal stretch, because beaches and viewpoints are spread out and parking is limited in the high season. Bring swimwear and a towel if you want a beach break between sights.
Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina
Palm Jumeirah is the palm-shaped artificial island visible from space. Your driver can take you along the trunk and through the tunnel to the crescent, or to the base of the 240-metre tower whose observation deck gives the classic view of the fronds from above. The Palm boardwalk on the outer crescent is a quiet place for a walk with skyline views.
A few minutes south, Dubai Marina is a canal city of towers lined with a long promenade, restaurants and boats, next to the beachfront Walk at JBR and the large observation wheel on Bluewaters Island. Evenings here are lively and the lights reflect on the water. With a full-day private car you can end the day at the Marina and be dropped straight back at your hotel.
Dubai to Abu Dhabi with the 10-Hour Option
If you choose the 10-hour Dubai to Abu Dhabi option, your driver takes you along the coastal highway to the capital, about 1.5 to 2 hours each way. The most visited stop is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with its white marble domes and vast prayer hall, followed by Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace open to visitors, and the Corniche waterfront.
Other favourites on a private Abu Dhabi day trip from Dubai are the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, under its great perforated dome, and the theme parks of Yas Island. Entry tickets are not included, so book them separately; the mosque is free but has a strict dress code covering arms and legs, with headscarves for women. This option suits anyone who wants both cities in one day without a group schedule.
