Overview

This helicopter sightseeing flight shows Barcelona from the most spectacular viewpoint of all: the sky. Flights leave from the Barcelona Heliport in the port, below Montjuïc. In the default 12-minute option you start along the coast, over Port Vell, La Barceloneta and the beaches, then turn inland over Torre Glòries, the Sagrada Família, the slopes of Tibidabo, the Camp Nou stadium and the Olympic Ring on Montjuïc, with headset audio of the cockpit radio. A shorter 7-minute coastal flight over the port, La Rambla, La Barceloneta and the Fòrum is also available. Seats are shared on the helicopter, and a safety briefing comes first. There is no hotel pickup: we confirm your exact flight time the day before, once the weather forecast is clear.

Full Description

Barcelona Heliport and Port Vell

Your experience begins at the Barcelona Heliport on Moll Adossat, the long quay in the port where the large cruise terminals stand, at the foot of Montjuïc hill. After check-in and a safety briefing of about 15 minutes, you board the helicopter and take off over the harbour, watching the pilot at the controls and listening to the radio exchanges with the control tower.

Within seconds Port Vell, the old harbour, opens below you: the marinas full of yachts, the wooden walkway of the Rambla de Mar and the foot of La Rambla, Barcelona's famous promenade, with the tall monument column at its end. If you are wondering whether a Barcelona helicopter tour is worth it, this first view of the port is usually the answer.

La Barceloneta, the beaches and Port Olímpic

The flight follows the coast over La Barceloneta, the old fishermen's quarter laid out in the eighteenth century in tight, regular blocks, and along the long sandy beaches that stretch north-east. Seen from above, the line of the sea, the promenade and the city behind makes it clear how Barcelona turned to face the Mediterranean.

Further on you pass Port Olímpic, built for the 1992 Olympic Games, with the twin skyscrapers of the Olympic Village, and the Fòrum area, created in 2004, with its giant solar pergola beside the sea. The 7-minute coastal option covers this waterfront route before returning to the heliport, while the 12-minute flight continues inland over the heart of the city.

Torre Glòries and the Sagrada Família

On the 12-minute flight the helicopter turns inland towards Torre Glòries, the shimmering bullet-shaped tower that rises to 144 m above Plaça de les Glòries, and then to the most famous building in the city. From the air, the Sagrada Família reveals its full cross-shaped plan, its cluster of spires and the cranes still working on the towers.

Around it spreads the Eixample, the nineteenth-century district of perfect octagonal blocks with chamfered corners, a grid that is only truly understood from above. Seeing the Sagrada Família from the air is one of the most memorable things to do in Barcelona and a completely different perspective from a visit on foot.

Tibidabo, Camp Nou and Montjuïc

The longer flight continues towards the slopes of Tibidabo, the 512 m summit of the Collserola hills crowned by a basilica and an old funfair, then sweeps over the Camp Nou stadium, the vast ground of the city's football club in the west of Barcelona and one of the largest stadiums in Europe, whose oval bowl looks enormous even from the air.

The last part of the route crosses Montjuïc, with the Olympic Ring and its stadium, the domed Palau Nacional above the fountains and the castle on the summit, before descending back to the heliport by the sea. Morning and afternoon slots are available, and clear days after a breeze give the sharpest views across the whole city.
