Full Description
Thong Krut on the South Coast
Your pickup comes between 13:00 and 14:30, depending on where you stay, and the van drives you to Thong Krut, a small fishing village on the south coast of Koh Samui. The beach here faces Koh Tan and Koh Madsum just a few kilometres away, so the speedboat ride to the first stop takes only about 15 minutes.
Thong Krut is far from the crowds of Chaweng and Lamai, and it keeps a slow village rhythm, with longtail boats pulled onto the sand and seafood restaurants along the shore. It is also where you return for dinner at the end of the afternoon, so you see the village both in daylight and lit up after sunset.
Koh Tan Snorkelling
Koh Tan, also written Koh Taen, is a quiet island with coconut groves, a handful of small settlements and one of the healthiest reefs near Koh Samui. The first stop gives you about an hour in the water, where the reef starts in shallow, sheltered water and slopes gently to deeper blue.
Expect hard corals, giant clams, parrotfish and shoals of small reef fish swirling around you. The guide gives out masks and life jackets and helps beginners, and touching marine life is not allowed to protect the reef. A Koh Tan snorkelling session in the afternoon light is often calmer than the busy morning trips, and the low sun lights up the reef in warm colours.
Koh Madsum – Pig Island
Koh Madsum, the island everyone calls Pig Island, sits right next to Koh Tan. Its long beach of soft white sand, palms and gentle turquoise water is lovely in itself, but the pigs that roam freely across the beach make it unique. Admission to the island is included in this tour, and you have about an hour and a half here.
Swim in the calm shallows, take photos with the pigs or simply sit under the trees. Please let the animals move freely and follow the guide's advice when they are close. As the light softens, the beach turns golden and the island becomes one of the most relaxing places near Koh Samui.
Kayaking and Sunset at Koh Madsum
When the weather and tide allow, kayaks are available at Koh Madsum, and you can paddle along the island's coastline to see the green hills, rocky points and clear water from a different angle. It is gentle paddling suitable for beginners, and life jackets are provided.
The highlight is the sunset: from the islands south of Koh Samui the sun sinks over the sea, painting the sky orange and pink behind the small islands on the horizon. You watch it from the beach or on the short ride back, the perfect moment for photos of your Koh Samui sunset boat trip. Keep a light layer handy, as the breeze on the water feels cooler once the sun has set.
Thai Set-Menu Dinner by the Sea
Back at Thong Krut, dinner is served at a seaside restaurant near the pier. The Thai set menu brings several dishes to share – typical choices include curry, stir-fried vegetables, soup and steamed rice – and a vegetarian version is available when you request it at booking. Drinking water and soft drinks are included.
Dinner lasts about an hour, giving you time to share photos and stories from the afternoon before the van takes you back to your hotel. The total time from pickup to drop-off is around 7 hours, so you are usually back at your hotel in the evening. If you have food allergies, tell us when booking so the restaurant can prepare suitable dishes.
