Plan Phi Phi Islands with Haqqi Tours: day tours, private airport transfers, attraction tickets and packages, run by our own team and confirmed on WhatsApp in Arabic or English.

At first light the water of Loh Dalum is so clear that the longtail boats seem to float in the air above the sand. Limestone cliffs draped in jungle rise straight out of the sea, a call to prayer echoes from the village mosque, and the smell of fresh roti drifts along the narrow lanes of Tonsai. Before the day boats arrive, the islands belong to fishermen, early swimmers and seabirds wheeling around the cliffs.

Phi Phi Islands at first sight

The Phi Phi Islands lie in the Andaman Sea between Phuket and Krabi, a small group of dramatic limestone islands within a national park. Phi Phi Don is the only inhabited island, with its village, hotels and beaches; Phi Phi Leh, just to the south, is wild and uninhabited, its cliffs enclosing Maya Bay and the emerald Pileh Lagoon. Few places in Thailand show off the turquoise water and towering cliffs of the south so perfectly.

Why include Phi Phi Islands in your itinerary?

  • Scenery that looks unreal. Sheer limestone cliffs, white sand and water in every shade of turquoise and emerald make Phi Phi one of the most beautiful island groups in Asia, best seen from a longtail boat or the viewpoint high above Tonsai.
  • Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon. Protected within a national park, Maya Bay has recovered beautifully since its long closure, while Pileh Lagoon is a hidden pool of emerald water ringed by cliffs, perfect for a swim straight from the boat.
  • Coral, calm and halal food. Reefs around Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island teem with tropical fish, and the local community of Phi Phi Don is largely Muslim, so halal food is easy to find in the village, a rare comfort among Thailand's islands.

Signature experiences in Phi Phi Islands

Maya Bay by Longtail Boat

Maya Bay is the jewel of Phi Phi Leh, a cove of white sand enclosed by sheer cliffs. Boats now land at a pier on the far side of the island at Loh Samah, and a boardwalk leads through the forest to the beach; swimming in the bay itself is not allowed, to protect the young blacktip reef sharks that shelter there. Our half-day longtail trips combine Maya Bay with snorkelling stops along the cliffs.

Pileh Lagoon and Viking Cave

On the eastern side of Phi Phi Leh, Pileh Lagoon is a narrow inlet of emerald water so enclosed by limestone that it feels like a natural pool. Boats glide in for a swim, then pass Viking Cave, where swiftlet nests are gathered high in the rock. Our private longtail trips let you choose the timing, arriving early before the crowds or late in the day when the light turns golden.

Island Hopping and Sunset at Sea

Longtail boats fan out from Tonsai to Bamboo Island, Mosquito Island and the snorkel spots off Phi Phi Leh, stopping to swim over coral gardens full of fish. The day ends with sunset at sea as the cliffs glow orange, and some trips stay out after dark to see glowing plankton sparkle in the water. Our longtail island-hopping and sunset tours include masks, fins and life jackets.

The Phi Phi Viewpoint

A steep stairway climbs from Tonsai Village to the viewpoint above the island's narrow waist, where the two curving bays of Tonsai and Loh Dalum lie side by side between green cliffs. The climb takes about twenty to thirty minutes. Go at sunrise or in the late afternoon to avoid the heat, carry water and take your time; the view is one of the finest in Thailand.

Tonsai Village and Island Life

Tonsai is a car-free village of narrow lanes, small mosques, cafés and fruit stalls, where island families have lived from fishing for generations. Try massaman curry, grilled fish, roti with banana and fresh coconut, much of it halal in this largely Muslim community. Watch fishermen mend nets along the beach, then follow the coastal path south to the calm sand of Long Beach.

Neighbourhoods and quarters to know in Phi Phi Islands

Tonsai Village

Tonsai is where the ferries arrive and the heart of island life, a busy maze of lanes with hotels, shops, dive centres, pharmacies and restaurants. It is the most convenient base for boat trips and the viewpoint, but it can be crowded and noisy late at night in the high season. Choose a hotel a little away from the central lanes for a quieter sleep.

Loh Dalum

Just behind Tonsai, across the island's sandy neck, Loh Dalum is a wide bay of shallow turquoise water beneath limestone cliffs. At low tide the sea retreats far out, and the beach is beautiful at sunrise. The beachfront is lively and loud in the evenings, so families usually prefer to stay elsewhere and visit by day for a swim and the view of the cliffs.

Long Beach

A short longtail ride or about half an hour on foot south of Tonsai, Long Beach has soft sand, good snorkelling just offshore and a direct view of Phi Phi Leh. A few resorts line the shore, the atmosphere is calm, and it suits couples and families who want to stay close to the village without its noise, with boat taxis waiting on the beach.

Laem Tong and the North

At the northern tip of Phi Phi Don, Laem Tong is reached only by boat, usually on resort transfers from Tonsai pier. Its resorts sit on a quiet white-sand beach close to Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island, with calm water and coral just offshore. It suits honeymooners and families who want privacy, space and a peaceful retreat, far from the bustle of the village.

How long to stay in Phi Phi Islands and how to pair it

Recommended stay

We recommend two to three nights on the Phi Phi Islands. One day for a longtail trip to Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon, one for island hopping and snorkelling with sunset at sea, and time for the viewpoint and a slow beach day. Phi Phi is also a popular day trip from Phuket or Krabi, but staying overnight lets you see the bays early and quiet.

How to pair it

Phi Phi sits between Phuket and Krabi, with ferries to both in about one and a half to two hours, so it pairs naturally with either. A seven-day trip combines Bangkok with Phuket and Phi Phi. In ten days, add Krabi's cliffs at Railay and Ao Nang, or quiet Koh Lanta. A fourteen-day journey can include Chiang Mai in the north or cross to Koh Samui and Koh Tao on the eastern coast.

Best time to visit Phi Phi Islands and the rhythm of the day

Best months

The best time to visit the Phi Phi Islands is from November to April, the dry season on the Andaman coast, with calm seas, sunshine and clear water; December to March is the busiest period. From May to October the south-west monsoon brings showers and rougher seas, and some boat trips may be cancelled. Maya Bay normally closes each year in August and September to let nature recover.

The daily rhythm

Phi Phi's best hours are the early ones. Private longtails leave around seven to reach Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon before the day boats from Phuket and Krabi arrive in mid-morning. Midday is for shade, lunch and a swim. Late afternoon brings the climb to the viewpoint or a sunset cruise, and evenings are spent over grilled seafood in the lanes of Tonsai.

On-the-ground logistics in Phi Phi Islands

Arrival

There is no airport on the islands. Fly to Phuket International Airport (HKT) or Krabi International Airport (KBV), then take a ferry from Rassada Pier in Phuket or from the piers of Krabi Town and Ao Nang, a crossing of about one and a half to two hours. Ferries arrive at Tonsai Pier on Phi Phi Don, where a small island fee is collected. We arrange private transfers between the airport and the ferry pier at either end.

Getting around

Phi Phi Don has no cars. You walk along the lanes and coastal paths of Tonsai, while porters with handcarts carry luggage from the pier to the hotels. To reach other beaches and the outer islands, longtail boats act as water taxis from the beach; agree the destination and waiting time before you board. A private longtail arranged by our team is the most comfortable way to explore at your own pace.

Local etiquette tip

Phi Phi Don's local community is largely Muslim and the wider country is Buddhist, so modesty and courtesy are appreciated. Wear swimwear only on the beach and cover shoulders and knees in the village, especially near mosques. Respect the national park rules: no feeding fish or monkeys, no standing on coral and no litter. Ask before photographing people, and keep your voice down late at night in the lanes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what travellers ask most about Phi Phi Islands.

Where should first-time visitors stay on the Phi Phi Islands?

First-time visitors usually stay in or near Tonsai Village on Phi Phi Don, close to the pier, restaurants and boat trips, choosing a hotel a little away from the busiest lanes. Long Beach is calmer and still close, while Laem Tong in the north suits privacy. Our team can suggest a hotel and arrange your private transfer to the ferry pier.

Can the Phi Phi Islands be done as a day trip, or do they need an overnight stay?

Day trips from Phuket and Krabi are very popular, but they arrive at the busiest hours and spend much of the day at sea. Two or three nights on Phi Phi Don let you reach Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon early, climb the viewpoint and enjoy sunset at sea. We arrange private transfers and longtail trips to fit your schedule.

What is the dress code and etiquette on the Phi Phi Islands?

Swimwear is fine on the beach and boats, but cover shoulders and knees in the village, where much of the local community is Muslim, and especially near mosques. Be polite and calm, ask before photographing people and follow national park rules: no feeding animals, no touching coral and no litter. Our guides explain local customs along the way.

Are the Phi Phi Islands tourist friendly?

Yes. Phi Phi welcomes travellers from all over the world, and English is widely spoken in hotels, shops and boat services. Halal food is easy to find in Tonsai thanks to the local Muslim community. Medical facilities are basic, with serious cases taken to Phuket or Krabi, so good travel insurance is essential.

Is it safe to travel to the Phi Phi Islands now?

The Phi Phi Islands are generally considered safe for visitors. Use licensed boats with life jackets, avoid the sea when flags or crews warn of rough water, and keep valuables secure in busy lanes. Before departure, check your own government's official travel advice, and keep our WhatsApp line handy throughout your stay.

What are the must-do things on the Phi Phi Islands?

The must-do things on Phi Phi include Maya Bay and its cliffs, a swim in Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, snorkelling at Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island, sunrise from the Phi Phi viewpoint, a sunset at sea and a quiet afternoon on Long Beach. Our longtail trips combine these in the best order and timing.

How many days do you need on the Phi Phi Islands?

Two to three days is ideal for Phi Phi: one for Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon, one for island hopping and a sunset at sea, and time for the viewpoint and the beach. A single night covers the highlights at a quicker pace, while a longer stay suits slow beach days and snorkelling.

With a private transfer: a driver at arrivals, flight tracking and a fixed price for the whole vehicle, door to door. Tell the desk the flight number and the hotel.

Is there public transport from the airport to Phi Phi Islands?

Public options vary by airport and end at a station rather than your hotel; the private transfer starts at the arrivals door and ends at your door.

Which tours are available in Phi Phi Islands?

Among them: 7-Island Longtail Snorkelling and Sunset Tour Phi Phi, Half-Day Maya Bay Longtail Boat Tour with Snorkelling Phi Phi and Private Longtail Boat to Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon Phi Phi. Each page says whether the day is private or small-group, what it includes and how long it lasts.

Are the tours private or in a group?

Are the prices fixed?

Do the drivers and guides speak Arabic or English?

It depends on the city and the day, so we do not promise a particular language; tell us your preference and we do our best. The WhatsApp desk always works in Arabic and English.

Can I change or cancel a booking in Phi Phi Islands?

Yes, in the same WhatsApp conversation. The terms depend on the product and on how close to the date the change comes; the desk states them before you pay.
