Full Description
Premià de Mar marina and the Maresme coast
Premià de Mar is a relaxed seaside town on the Maresme, the stretch of coast that runs north-east from Barcelona with long sandy beaches, a coastal promenade and green hills behind. Its marina, sheltered by a stone breakwater, is the base for sailing boats, small motor boats and the jet ski base where your experience begins, away from the crowds of the city beaches.
How to get to Premià de Mar from Barcelona: by car it takes about 15 to 25 minutes along the coastal motorway, and the R1 local train runs right along the shore from central Barcelona to Premià de Mar station in about half an hour. The marina is a short walk from the station, so the experience is easy to add to a beach day.
The jet ski ride: how it works
After a clear safety briefing on how to start, steer, accelerate and stop, you put on your life jacket and head out to sea. The jet ski is yours for the time you choose: a lively 30 minutes or a full hour, enough to settle into the rhythm of the waves, open up the throttle on straight stretches and stop to enjoy the view back to the coast.
Each jet ski carries one or two people. The passenger must be at least 1.30 m tall, and the two of you can swap drivers during the ride. The route follows the Maresme coastline, with Premià de Mar, the neighbouring towns and the hills of the coastal range behind, and on clear days the outline of Barcelona to the south-west.
Riding without a licence, safely
In Spain you can ride a jet ski without a licence when you go out on a supervised excursion with a qualified instructor, which is exactly how this experience works. The instructor sets the pace and the area, keeps the group together and follows in a guide boat, ready to help at any moment, so first-timers feel confident from the start.
Good equipment and clear rules make the ride both fun and safe. Life jackets are provided, there is an outdoor shower at the base, and a refundable security deposit is taken on site and returned at the end. You need to bring an ID document or passport, swimwear or clothes that can get wet, a towel and sunscreen, and arrive 30 minutes before your slot.
Brunch for two in the marina
In the default option the adrenaline is followed by a relaxed brunch for two at a restaurant in the marina, a pleasant way to dry off in the sun, look out over the moored boats and talk about the ride. It turns a short activity into a complete late-morning or midday outing by the sea.
If you prefer to keep your time free, the 30-minute and 60-minute options without brunch are available too. Many travellers combine the ride with an afternoon on the beaches of the Maresme or a stroll along the seafront promenade of Premià de Mar before taking the train back to central Barcelona, where the evening is still yours to enjoy.
