Full Description

PortAventura Park

PortAventura Park opened in 1995 near Salou and Vila-seca and is one of the largest theme parks in southern Europe. It is divided into themed areas: Mediterrània, Polynesia, China, Mexico, the Far West and SésamoAventura, which is aimed at younger children.

Its best-known rides include Shambhala, a very tall and fast steel coaster, Dragon Khan, famous for its multiple inversions, and Furius Baco, a launched coaster themed on the Mediterranean. Because opening hours and show times change through the year, plan your route when you arrive and pick the big rides while queues are short.

Ferrari Land and Red Force

Ferrari Land is the racing-themed area next to PortAventura Park, dedicated to the Italian car maker. Its star attraction is Red Force, a vertical accelerator that launches riders to about 180 km/h in a few seconds and climbs to around 112 metres, making it the tallest and fastest ride of its type in Europe.

Ferrari Land also has rides for younger visitors, simulators and racing-themed attractions, along with photo opportunities. If you are looking for the best ride in Ferrari Land, Red Force is the answer for adrenaline lovers. Height and age limits apply to each ride, so check them at the entrance.

The coach journey along the Costa Daurada

The trip to PortAventura from Barcelona takes roughly an hour and a quarter by road, heading south along the coast into the province of Tarragona. The air-conditioned coach means you avoid driving and parking, and the return journey is fixed in your booking. On the way you pass coastal towns, olive groves and farmland that show another side of Catalonia.

This coach leaves from a central Barcelona pick-up point rather than from hotels. Hotel pickup is not included, so plan your route to the meeting point in advance. The exact departure and return times are confirmed when you book.

Planning your day at PortAventura and Ferrari Land

Wondering how to spend one day at PortAventura? Head first to the rides you most want to try, since queues usually grow after late morning, and use the middle of the day for shows, shade and lunch. Lunch is not included in the trip, so budget for a meal inside the park or bring snacks.

The best time to visit PortAventura is outside the school holidays, when the park is calmer. In hot months bring water, sun protection and a change of clothes for the water rides. Keep your return coach time in mind and be back at the meeting point before departure.
