Overview
A Cappadocia hot air balloon flight is the most magical way to see Göreme's fairy chimneys, rock valleys and cave villages. We pick you up from your hotel anywhere in Cappadocia about an hour before sunrise and drive you to the take-off field, where light snacks are served while the crew inflates the balloons. The standard option shown here is the Comfort flight, in a smaller basket for 16 to 20 guests, divided into four compartments with no more than five people each. You float for around an hour at heights of up to about 600 metres, then land for a small celebration and receive your flight certificate before we drive you back. It is a shared flight, unforgettable for couples, families and friends.

Full Description
Göreme and Göreme National Park
Göreme is the heart of Cappadocia, a village of cave hotels set among cones of soft volcanic rock. Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia were listed by UNESCO in 1985 for their unique landscape and their rock-cut churches, chapels and homes, carved over many centuries into the tuff.
Most balloon flights launch from the fields around Göreme, so the village is at the centre of every morning's spectacle. If you wonder how to get to Cappadocia, the nearest airports are Kayseri and Nevşehir, each about an hour by road, and buses arrive from Istanbul and Ankara; once you are here, our pickup covers Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp, Avanos, Ortahisar, Çavuşin, Mustafapaşa, Nar and Nevşehir.
The Fairy Chimneys from Above
The famous fairy chimneys were formed when ash from ancient volcanoes such as Erciyes and Hasan hardened into tuff, which wind and rain then sculpted into tall cones, many topped by harder basalt caps. From the balloon you see whole fields of them, together with old pigeon houses and doorways carved into the rock.
Is a Cappadocia balloon ride worth it? It is the experience most travellers remember above all others: the silence, the soft rising and falling, and the moment when the sun clears the horizon and the rock turns pink and gold. The pilot often descends close to the formations so that you almost seem to touch them.
The Valleys and Uçhisar Castle
As the wind carries you, the balloon drifts over the valleys around Göreme, which may include Love Valley, Rose Valley, Red Valley and Pigeon Valley, depending on the day's wind direction. Each has its own colours and shapes, from rippled pink rock walls to orchards and gardens on the valley floor.
On the horizon stands Uçhisar Castle, the tallest rock outcrop in the region, honeycombed with ancient rooms, and on clear mornings the snowy peak of Erciyes appears far to the east. The best time to visit Cappadocia for balloon flights is April to June and September to November, when the weather is most stable; winter flights are colder but often wonderfully clear.
Take-off, Landing and the Celebration
At the take-off field you watch the crew unroll and inflate the balloon with fans and burners, a spectacular sight as dozens of balloons rise around you at dawn. After the safety briefing, you climb into your compartment of the Comfort basket, where there is more space and a better view than in the larger baskets.
After around an hour the pilot lands gently, often directly onto the trailer. The crew packs the balloon while you enjoy a small celebration and receive your personal flight certificate. The flight video is not included. We then drive you back to your hotel, usually in time for breakfast; the whole experience takes about three hours.
