Overview
This private tour shows you three of the best-loved sights around Ubud in one relaxed day: the green curves of the Tegalalang Rice Terrace, a family coffee plantation where you taste Balinese coffee and herbal teas, and the jungle cascade of Kanto Lampo Waterfall. Our driver collects you from your hotel in South Bali (Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu or Nusa Dua) in a private air-conditioned vehicle, and your own English-speaking guide explains the subak irrigation system, the coffee-making process and the stories behind each stop. The default option includes all entrance tickets, so you simply walk in. Options with pickup in Ubud or without tickets are also available. It suits couples, families and first-time visitors who want Ubud at their own pace.

Full Description
Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Ubud
The Tegalalang Rice Terrace lies about ten kilometres north of central Ubud, where a steep river valley has been carved into dozens of narrow paddies that step down the slopes beneath tall coconut palms. It is the most photographed rice landscape in Bali, and a Tegalalang Rice Terrace tour is the classic first stop of any Ubud day. Your guide walks you down the earthen paths between the fields and shows how water is shared from terrace to terrace through small channels and bamboo pipes.
That system is the subak, the cooperative irrigation tradition that Balinese farmers have used for about a thousand years and that UNESCO recognised as a cultural landscape of Bali in 2012. You spend about an hour here, which is enough to cross the valley and climb back for the view. The best time to visit Tegalalang is early morning, when the light is soft and the paths are quiet; this tour starts early for exactly that reason.
A Balinese coffee plantation and tasting
From the terraces the car continues to a family coffee plantation in the hills around Tegalalang, set among coffee shrubs, cacao, vanilla vines and spice plants. A local host shows you the whole process from the red coffee cherry to the cup: the beans are dried in the sun, roasted slowly in a clay pan over a wood fire, and then ground by hand with a wooden pestle, the way many Balinese villages still do it.
Then comes the part most guests remember: a tasting of several Balinese coffees and herbal teas, served in small glasses on a terrace that looks over the jungle. Expect flavours such as ginger, lemongrass, coconut and cocoa alongside the classic Bali coffee. The stop lasts about an hour, there is a small shop if you want to take some beans with you, and buying anything is entirely optional. It is a calm, shaded break between the two outdoor highlights of the day.
Kanto Lampo Waterfall in Gianyar
Kanto Lampo Waterfall sits in the village of Beng in the Gianyar regency, about twenty minutes south-east of Ubud. Unlike the tall single-drop falls of north Bali, the water here spreads out and slides down a wide stepped wall of dark volcanic rock, which creates the layered curtain that has made it one of the most photographed waterfalls on the island. A path and a series of steps lead from the parking area down to the pool, so comfortable non-slip shoes are a must.
You have about an hour to relax, take photos on the rocks in front of the falls and, if you wish, swim in the shallow pool, so pack swimwear and a towel. Is Kanto Lampo Waterfall worth visiting? It is one of the easiest waterfalls to reach from Ubud and perfect for a short, refreshing stop. Morning visits are quieter; after heavy rain the flow is stronger and the guide decides where it is safe to stand.
Ubud and the Gianyar countryside
Ubud is Bali's cultural heart, a town of palaces, temples, craft villages and rice fields set in the green hills of the Gianyar regency. On this private Ubud tour you see more than three stops: the drive itself passes woodcarving and stone-carving villages, roadside shrines decorated with fresh offerings and small family compounds with their split gateways. Your guide is happy to stop for photos along the way, because the itinerary is flexible and the vehicle is yours.
From South Bali the drive to Ubud takes about an hour each way, which is why the South Bali options last around eight hours, while guests already staying in Ubud are back in about six. Pickup times run from early morning, and we recommend the first slots for cooler air and fewer people at Tegalalang. Lunch is not included, but your guide can suggest a warung with Balinese dishes on the route if you want a meal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private experience?
It is fully private: the vehicle, driver and guide are for your party only, and you can adjust the pace and the time spent at each stop.
How long does the tour take?
About eight hours with pickup from South Bali, including about one hour of driving each way, or about six hours with pickup in the Ubud area.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes. Every option includes pickup and drop-off at your hotel or villa, either in South Bali (Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua) or in the Ubud area, depending on the option you book.
What is included?
Private transport with driver, fuel and parking, an English-speaking guide, bottled water, the coffee and tea sampling and, in the default option, the entrance tickets at Tegalalang and Kanto Lampo.
Is the price per person or per group?
The price is per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option for the number of travellers you select.
Is it suitable for children and people with reduced mobility?
Children and families are welcome. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with back or mobility problems, because both the rice terrace and the waterfall involve steps and uneven ground.
What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes, swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a camera. Light clothing that covers shoulders and knees is useful for any temple stop.
When is the best time to visit Tegalalang Rice Terrace?
Early morning, between about 07:00 and 09:00, gives soft light and fewer visitors. The rice is greenest a few weeks after planting, which happens several times a year, so the terraces look good in every season.
Can I swim at Kanto Lampo Waterfall?
Yes, swimming in the pool below the falls is allowed and optional. After heavy rain the current can be strong, so follow your guide's advice on where it is safe.
What happens in bad weather?
The tour runs in light rain, which is common in the wet season. If conditions are unsafe, we offer you another date or a full refund.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose your option, date and start time in the booking panel and send your request. Our team confirms your booking on WhatsApp within minutes and shares the pickup details.
