Beginners are welcome; a professional guide leads every group after a thirty-minute briefing and practice lap, and helmets, boots and insurance are provided. Full Description
The ATV camp near Tegallalang, Ubud
The ride starts at an ATV camp in the countryside north of Ubud, in the Tegallalang area known for its terraced rice fields. You arrive at least thirty minutes before your slot for registration, a safety briefing and a short practice session on a flat loop, where the guide shows you the throttle, brakes and how to shift your weight on slopes. Helmets and rubber boots are issued, and lockers, towels and shower rooms are available so you can change into clothes you do not mind getting muddy.
The camp is the meeting point for guests who come by themselves and the drop-off point for the transfer options; our driver brings you here from your hotel in the Ubud area, or from Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu in the south. After the ride you shower, collect your things and sit down to lunch with a welcome drink of fresh lemon juice before the return transfer.
Rice fields and jungle trails
The first part of the Ubud ATV ride crosses wide rice fields on raised earth paths, a gentle warm-up with open views of the paddies, coconut palms and the hills towards Mount Batur. Here you get used to the machine before the terrain changes. The track then drops into the jungle: narrow muddy trails under bamboo and banyan, roots and ruts, and a sequence of steep uphill and downhill sections that the guide takes one rider at a time.
This is where the ride earns its reputation as the ultimate ATV experience in Bali. Expect to get wet and muddy, especially in the rainy season when the trail is softer and, as the guides say, more fun. The pace is set to the slowest rider, so beginners can relax; experienced riders can ask the guide for a faster line on the open stretches.
River crossings and waterfalls
Several times the track meets a river, and you ride straight through the shallow water with spray flying from the wheels. Between the crossings the trail passes small tropical waterfalls tumbling over mossy rocks deep in the Ubud countryside, places with no road access that you would never reach on a normal waterfall tour. The guide stops at the most photogenic ones so you can take pictures and videos on your own phone, and helps frame the shot of you on the ATV with the falls behind.
These are not the big named waterfalls of Bali but quiet jungle cascades on the ATV route, and that is their appeal. The water in the rivers is usually knee-deep or less; the guide checks the levels after heavy rain and adjusts the route if needed. Allow for about twenty minutes of the ride in and around the water sections.
The 750-metre cave tunnel
The highlight of the ride is the natural cave tunnel, about 750 metres long, which the trail enters halfway through the route. Inside, the light fades quickly: the ATV headlights pick out dripping rock walls, a low ceiling in places and a floor of mud and shallow water, and the sound of the engines echoes through the passage. It is dark, cool and slightly eerie, and the moment you see daylight at the far end is the one most riders talk about afterwards.
The tunnel is wide enough for one ATV at a time and the guide leads the convoy slowly through it, so no experience is needed. Because of the dark section the ride is not suitable for very young children or anyone who dislikes enclosed spaces; otherwise it is the part of this ATV tour in Ubud that makes it different from every other quad track on the island.
The mud-drift finale
The route ends with the most playful section: a wide, deliberately flooded mud track where you can drift the ATV, splash through the puddles and let the back wheels slide before rolling into the camp covered in mud. It is a short loop of a few minutes that riders usually ask to repeat, and the guide films it for you on your own phone if you like. Photo and video packages from the camp's professional photographers are available separately.
Back at the camp you rinse off in the shower rooms, change, and sit down to lunch of an egg sandwich and fries with the fresh lemon juice welcome drink. The whole visit takes about two hours plus lunch; the Ubud-area transfer options bring you back to your hotel afterwards, and the south Bali options allow about an hour and a half for the drive back to Kuta, Seminyak or Canggu.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private experience?
The ride is in a small group led by a guide; each rider has a single ATV, or two people share a tandem ATV. The transfer options include a private driver from your hotel.
How long does the ATV ride take?
About 30 minutes of briefing and practice followed by 1 to 1.5 hours of riding, then lunch; allow about two and a half hours at the camp plus the transfers.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes in the Ubud-area and the Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu options, with a private driver; the two meeting-point options do not include transfers.
What is included?
The full-track ATV ride, a professional guide, helmet and boots, insurance, lunch with a fresh lemon juice, towel, locker and shower, and the guide's help with photos on your own phone; the transfer options add hotel pickup and drop-off.
Is the price per person or per group?
The single-ATV meeting-point option is per rider; the tandem meeting-point option covers two riders; the transfer options are priced by group size. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.
What is the difference between a single and a tandem ATV?
A single ATV has one rider. A tandem ATV carries two people on the same machine: one drives and the other rides behind, which suits couples, a parent with a child or anyone who prefers not to drive.
Do I need experience to ride an ATV?
No. The ATVs are automatic, the guide gives a briefing and practice lap, and the convoy moves at the pace of the slowest rider. Beginners ride this track every day.
Is it suitable for children and for people with reduced mobility?
Children can ride as passengers on a tandem ATV with an adult; the dark tunnel and the rough track are not recommended for small children. The ride is not suitable for pregnant women, people over 65, babies under one year or people who cannot hold on firmly for an hour.
What should I bring?
Old clothes, a change of clothes, sunscreen, a phone strap or waterproof case, and some cash for the camp's photo package or extra drinks if you want them.
What happens if it rains?
The ride goes ahead rain or shine; rain makes the mud track softer and more fun. The guides check river levels after heavy rain and adjust the route if necessary.
When is the best time of day to ride?
Morning slots from 08:00 to 10:00 are cooler and the jungle is quieter; afternoon slots at 13:00 to 15:00 suit a later start. The dry season from April to October gives firmer trails; November to March is wetter and muddier.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose the option, date and start time in the booking panel and send the request; our team confirms your booking on WhatsApp within minutes with the pickup time or the camp location.
