Full Description

Kabataş pier and the hotel pickup

The boat waits at Kabataş pier, beside Dolmabahçe Palace on the European shore, with boarding before the 20:30 departure. Kabataş is the end of the T1 tram line from Sultanahmet, Eminönü and Karaköy and the lower station of the F1 funicular from Taksim, so our Istanbul team recommends the tram for everyone staying in the Old City or Beyoğlu. If you choose the pickup option, an air-conditioned coach collects you from hotels in Sultanahmet, Sirkeci, Topkapı, Taksim, Harbiye, Beyoğlu and Karaköy between 30 and 90 minutes before departure.

Passports or ID cards are checked at boarding. After the cruise, guests on the pickup option are dropped at their hotels around midnight, with drop-off points covering Fatih, Eminönü, Sultanahmet, Şişli, Beyoğlu, Beşiktaş and Zeytinburnu; everyone else finds taxis at the rank beside the pier.

The European shore: Dolmabahçe, Çırağan and Ortaköy

As soon as the boat leaves the pier the floodlit facade of Dolmabahçe Palace, the 19th-century residence of the last sultans, fills the windows for several minutes, followed by the arcades of Çırağan Palace. Welcome drinks are served while the host introduces the evening in Arabic and English. Then comes Ortaköy, the little waterfront square whose baroque mosque of 1854 stands right at the water's edge with the illuminated 15 July Martyrs Bridge arching behind it, the most photographed frame of the Bosphorus.

The boat passes beneath the bridge, the first link between Europe and Asia across the strait, opened in 1973. Unlike shorter cruises it does not turn here but continues north along the European shore towards the narrowest point of the Bosphorus.

Rumeli Fortress and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge

The furthest point of the route is the stretch between Rumeli Fortress and the second bridge. The fortress, built in just four months in 1452 by Sultan Mehmed II to cut the Black Sea supply route before the siege of Constantinople, climbs the hillside with three great towers and walls lit at night. Directly beyond it the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, opened in 1988 and named after the same sultan, spans the strait at its narrowest point, and the boat sails under its lit cables before turning for the Asian shore.

This is the part of the Bosphorus that daytime visitors rarely see after dark: the old waterside mansions of Bebek and Arnavutköy on one side, Kandilli and Anadolu Hisarı on the other, with the hills behind them in shadow and the water black and calm.

The Asian shore: Beylerbeyi Palace and Üsküdar

The return runs down the Asian shore past Beylerbeyi Palace, the white marble summer palace built in the 1860s for sultans and visiting heads of state, which sits at the foot of the first bridge with its two small bathing pavilions on the quay. Dinner is served at your private table during this stretch: a Turkish meal of starters and a main course with unlimited local soft drinks, water and tea, all halal, as is the norm in Istanbul. The host walks between the tables and answers questions.

Beyond the palace the lit minarets of the mosques of Üsküdar, several designed by the architect Sinan, line the waterfront, and the quiet residential face of Asian Istanbul contrasts with the bright Beşiktaş shore opposite. Many guests find this the most peaceful part of the cruise.

The Maiden's Tower and the return

The last landmark is the Maiden's Tower, floodlit on its islet just off Üsküdar, with the domes and minarets of the Old City and the Galata Tower behind it. A tower has stood here since Byzantine times as a lighthouse and customs post; the present one dates from the 18th century and reopened after restoration in 2023. The boat slows for photos before crossing back to Kabataş, where it docks around 23:30.

By now the DJ has taken over from the dancers and the floor is open. Guests on the pickup option board the coach for drop-off at their hotels around midnight; the tram has stopped by this hour, so others should plan a taxi from the pier.

Dinner and the entertainment programme

The stage programme is a real cross-section of Turkish performance. It opens with the Kâtibim show, a musical performance built around the old Üsküdar song, then the Aşuk Maşuk, a comic dance from the Taşeli district near Silifke performed by two dancers in giant padded costumes. Mixed folk dances from the regions of Turkey follow, then belly dancers and a fast Caucasian dance with its knife-sharp footwork. The DJ closes the evening with international hits.

Dinner comes to your private table between the acts: starters, a main course and unlimited local soft drinks, water and tea. Tables are arranged for parties of any size, from a couple to a large group, and Wi-Fi is free on board. Tell us about allergies, vegetarian plates or a celebration when you book.

What is included?

The 3-hour cruise under both bridges, a private table, Turkish dinner, unlimited local soft drinks, water and tea, the full stage programme and DJ, Wi-Fi on board and the host; the pickup option adds the coach transfer.

Is the price per person or per group?

Per person, with a child rate for ages 4 to 7 and free travel for infants up to 3. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.

Is the food halal and is there a vegetarian option?

Yes, the dinner is halal, as is normal in Istanbul; tell us when you book if you need a vegetarian plate.

How is this cruise different from other Bosphorus dinner cruises?

It sails under both bridges as far as Rumeli Fortress and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and the programme includes the Kâtibim show and the comic Aşuk Maşuk dance as well as folk dances, belly dance and a DJ.

Is it suitable for children and reduced mobility?

Families are welcome and children enjoy the costumes and the comic dance. Boarding is by gangway; tell us if anyone uses a wheelchair and we will check the boat for your date.
