Overview
Take the controls of your own small jet boat on this private self-drive tour from Dubai Harbour. A certified instructor leads the way in his own guide boat, films and photographs you, and keeps the group on a safe route. The default two-hour premium tour is the most complete: past the arched resort and its newer neighbour at the tip of Palm Jumeirah, a free ride in the open sea, out to the World Islands, along the coast to Burj Al Arab, and a swimming break in the calm Palm lagoon. Each boat takes up to three people with at least one adult driver, and no other guests join your group. Shorter 30-minute, one-hour and 90-minute routes are also available.
Highlights
- Drive your own sit-in jet boat, more stable than a jet ski
- Fully private tour with a certified instructor in a separate guide boat
- Photos and videos of your ride taken by the guide
- See the Palm Jumeirah crescent resorts and Burj Al Arab from the water
- Ride out to the World Islands on the 2-hour tour
- Swimming break in the calm Palm lagoon on the 2-hour tour
- Free golf cart between the Dubai Harbour meeting point and the dock
Full Description
Dubai Harbour and your safety briefing
The adventure starts at Dubai Harbour, the modern marina between Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah. Take a taxi to the yacht club, where your guide meets you and a complimentary golf cart drives you about ten minutes to the dock. Changing rooms and washrooms are available, so arrive 45 to 60 minutes early if you want to use them, and at least 30 minutes early in any case.
Before you set off, the instructor gives a 15-minute safety briefing on the controls, hand signals and the route. The boats are compact sit-in jet boats with a steering wheel and throttle; unlike a jet ski they do not tip over, so you can enjoy the speed with confidence. Each boat carries up to three people and must have at least one adult driver.
Palm Jumeirah and its crescent resorts
Leaving the harbour, the convoy heads along the outer crescent of Palm Jumeirah, the palm-shaped island reclaimed from the sea in the early 2000s. At the tip of the crescent stand two of the most recognisable buildings in Dubai: the arched resort with its pink-toned towers joined by a giant arch, and its newer neighbour, a striking stack of offset blocks with sky gardens.
Seen from a small boat at sea level, they look even bigger than from the road. Your guide slows the group down here to take photos and videos of you with the resorts behind. On the one-hour tour you choose either this stretch or Burj Al Arab, while the 90-minute and two-hour tours include both.
The open sea and the World Islands
Between landmarks comes the part everyone looks forward to: a free ride in the open sea, where the instructor lets you open the throttle within safe limits. The jet boats skim the waves and the spray flies, but the low seating keeps you stable and dry enough to enjoy every minute.
The two-hour premium tour continues out to the World Islands, the man-made archipelago about four kilometres off the coast, shaped from above like a map of the world. Most of the islands are still quiet sandbanks, and riding among them gives a rare sense of space so close to the city. You can also choose to customise this time with your guide instead of following the standard route.
Burj Al Arab from your own boat
Burj Al Arab, the 321-metre sail-shaped tower on its own island off Umm Suqeim, is the classic photo of any boat tour in Dubai. Arriving by jet boat, low on the water, gives a dramatic angle on its curved white facade, and the guide positions the group so that the photos show you driving with the tower behind.
The best light here is in the morning, when the water is often calmer, or in the late afternoon. Bring sunglasses and a hat, as there is no shade on the boats, and use waterproof sunscreen. All the photos and videos are sent to your phone after the tour, which is why we ask for a number with WhatsApp.
Palm lagoon swim and the JBR coast
On the two-hour tour, the group stops inside the sheltered lagoon of Palm Jumeirah, where the water is usually flat and clear, for a swimming break. Wear swimwear under your clothes and bring a towel; life jackets stay with you for the swim, and the instructor chooses a safe spot away from other boat traffic.
On the way back to Dubai Harbour, the route passes Jumeirah Beach Residence, the long sandy beach backed by a wall of towers. The 30-minute seasonal ride focuses on this area or on the Palm lagoon, with a short open-sea run, a good choice if you only want a quick taste of driving your own boat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this a shared or a private experience?
It is fully private: only your group rides with the instructor, and no other guests join.
Do I need a licence or experience to drive the jet boat?
No experience is needed. The instructor gives a full safety briefing and leads the way in his own boat; each boat needs one adult driver.
How long does the jet boat tour take?
You choose 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours or 2 hours on the water. This page describes the 2-hour premium tour with a swim stop.
Is hotel pickup included?
No. You meet at Dubai Harbour, and a free golf cart takes you between the meeting point and the dock.
What is included?
Your self-drive jet boat, a certified instructor in a guide boat, life jackets and safety briefing, bottled water, photos and videos of your ride, and the golf cart transfer at the harbour.
Is the price per person or per group?
The price is per group and depends on how many boats you need: one boat carries up to 3 people. The booking panel on this page shows the current price for your group size.
How is a jet boat different from a jet ski?
You sit inside a small boat with a steering wheel, so it is stable and does not flip over, while still giving the thrill of speed on the waves.
Is it suitable for children?
Children from 6 years can ride as passengers with an adult driver. It is not suitable for children under 6, pregnant women or people with heart problems.
Will I get wet?
A little spray is part of the fun, and the 2-hour tour includes a swim. Wear swimwear and bring a towel and a change of clothes.
What happens in bad weather?
If wind or sea conditions are unsafe, the tour is moved to another date or fully refunded.
What is the best time for a jet boat tour in Dubai?
Morning slots usually have calmer water and cooler air. From October to April the temperature is ideal; in summer choose the earliest start.
How do I book and confirm?
Choose the tour length, date and start time in the booking panel. Our team confirms on WhatsApp within minutes and sends the meeting instructions.
