Full Description
Ubud and the Green Highlands of Bali
Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali, a town of royal palaces, temple ceremonies, painting villages and traditional dance, surrounded by ridges of jungle and terraced rice fields. The ATV base lies in the quieter countryside around Ubud, where the air is fresher than on the coast and village life still follows the rhythm of the rice harvest.
In the default option our driver collects you from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle at the time you choose, between 7:30 and 13:30, and the scenic drive inland is a good introduction to the island's interior. The total outing takes about 5 hours with transfers, so a quad bike tour with hotel pickup leaves the rest of your day free for the beach, a spa or an evening in Ubud.
Safety Briefing and Your Quad Bike
At the base the team welcomes you, gives you a locker for your belongings and fits you with a helmet, boots, elbow and knee pads. A certified guide then runs a full safety briefing, explaining the throttle, brakes and riding position, and you try the controls on a short practice loop until you feel confident.
In this option every rider has a solo ATV, one quad bike per person, and guides ride at the front and back of the group to set a comfortable pace and help on the trickier sections. Groups are limited to 6 quad bikes, which keeps the ride personal and safe. Beginners are welcome, and experienced riders still find plenty of fun on the climbs and descents of what is described as one of the longest quad tracks on the island.
Jungle Trails and Rice Fields
The ride sets off along narrow trails through bamboo groves, coconut palms and dense tropical forest before opening onto wide views of rice fields. These fields are watered by subak, the cooperative irrigation system that Balinese farmers have managed through temples and village councils for over a thousand years, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage cultural landscape in 2012.
Depending on the season you may see farmers planting young shoots, flooded paddies reflecting the sky or golden rice ready for harvest, and the guides stop at a viewpoint for photos. This contrast between the shady jungle and the open terraces is what makes an Ubud ATV ride feel so different from quad biking on sand or dry trails elsewhere.
River Crossings, Mud Tracks and Natural Tunnels
The most exciting part of the track comes as the trail drops towards the river. You ride through shallow water, power up slippery slopes and cross stretches of thick red mud, then pass through natural tunnels cut into the soft volcanic earth, a highlight for most riders and a great moment for photos and videos with a waterproof camera.
Expect to get properly wet and muddy, especially in the wet season from November to March, when the track is at its wildest. In the drier months from April to October the ride is dustier and a little faster. Either way the guides adapt the pace to the group, and the experience runs rain or shine, which is part of the fun of a jungle quad bike adventure in Bali.
Shower, Lunch and the Return Drive
Back at the finish point you can use the showers, towels and lockers to clean up and change into fresh clothes. Lunch is then served: a plate of fried rice or fried noodles, the island's favourite everyday dishes, with coffee or tea and bottled water. Bali grows its own coffee in the highlands around Kintamani, so it is a good moment to try a local cup.
After lunch our driver takes you back to your hotel. If you would like more from the day, other options on this page add a jungle swing session and the Tegalalang Rice Terrace, a visit to the Ubud Monkey Forest and Tirta Empul Water Temple, or a white-water rafting trip, and a tandem option lets two people share one quad bike.

How long does it take?
The ride lasts about 1.5 hours. With hotel transfers, briefing, shower and lunch, the whole outing takes about 5 hours.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes, the default option includes hotel pickup and drop-off from selected areas of Bali. Another option lets you meet directly at the ATV base.
What is included?
Hotel transfers, a solo quad bike, certified ATV guide and safety briefing, helmet, boots, elbow and knee pads, lockers, towels and showers, lunch of fried rice or fried noodles with coffee or tea and bottled water, and insurance.
Is the price per person or per group?
The price is per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option, including tandem and combination options.
Is it suitable for children or travellers with reduced mobility?
Children can join as passengers with an adult on the tandem option; babies under 1 year cannot take part. Tell us the ages when booking and we confirm the best option. The ride is bumpy, so it is not suitable for pregnant women, people with back problems or wheelchair users.

Morning rides are cooler and leave the afternoon free. April to October is the dry season with firmer tracks; November to March brings more mud and river water, which many riders love.

The ride runs rain or shine, and rain usually makes the track more fun. Only if conditions become unsafe will the team change the route or timing, and we will help you rebook.
Is the lunch halal?
Lunch is a simple Indonesian plate of fried rice or fried noodles. Bali is mostly Hindu, so if you need halal food please tell us when booking and we will confirm what the kitchen can prepare.
