Full Description

Gorilla Face Cave and the Ubud quad trail

The quad ride is the first half of the day. After a safety briefing and a short practice, you follow a guide along muddy tracks, shallow streams, rice paddies and forest paths near Ubud. The highlight is Gorilla Face Cave, a short tunnel whose entrance is carved in the shape of a gorilla's face, one of the most photographed spots on any Ubud ATV tour.

In the default option you share one quad with a partner and take turns, which suits first-timers. Travelling with an odd number of guests means one person rides solo with a small on-site supplement. Expect to get splashed, so bring a change of clothes, and note the ride lasts around 1.5 hours including photo stops.

Ayung River rafting

The Ayung is the longest river in Bali and a favourite for rafting because its rapids are lively but suitable for beginners. Guides sit at the back of each raft and steer you between boulders, rocky walls hung with ferns and small waterfalls, and the canyon is quiet enough to hear birds between the rapids. You spend about 2.5 hours on the river.

Many people ask about Ayung rafting difficulty. It is a moderate ride, with helmets and life jackets provided, and no experience is needed. To reach the river you walk down a hill for roughly 15 to 20 minutes and climb back up afterwards, so wear water shoes or flip-flops. The activity runs rain or shine, and the river feels fresh in every season.

Lunch, showers and facilities

After the rafting the team takes you back to the meeting area, where you can shower and change in the changing rooms. Lockers keep valuables safe during the ride, towels are provided and there is bottled water. Lunch follows, usually fried rice or fried noodles, and dietary needs can be noted when you register.

Cash is useful for tips and for photo or video packages sold on site, which are not included. Free parking is available for guests who arrive by car or scooter. Because the pace is relaxed, the day feels active without being exhausting, and the location is ideal to combine with an afternoon in central Ubud.

Getting to the Ubud adventure area and the best time to go

The venue lies in the countryside north of central Ubud, roughly an hour from Seminyak, Kuta and Canggu. Many travellers ask how to get to the Ayung River from Seminyak or Ubud; the easiest way is to book the option with hotel pickup, where a driver collects you from most areas of south to central Bali.

Rafting is good year-round, but the dry season from April to October gives clearer trails and calmer water. In the rainy months the river runs faster and the quad tracks are muddier, which many guests enjoy. Morning slots are cooler, and your driver confirms the pickup time the day before.
