Full Description

Blue Lagoon Beach, Padang Bai

Blue Lagoon is a small, sheltered cove of white sand just east of Padang Bai, the harbour town on Bali's east coast best known for its ferries to Lombok. The reef starts only a few metres from the shore, the water is usually calm and very clear, and the coral shelters shoals of reef fish. On a good day snorkellers also spot sea turtles, lionfish, squid and even small reef sharks resting near the bottom.

Your snorkelling session is led by an expert instructor who checks your mask and fins and keeps the group together in the water, so it works for confident beginners as well as experienced swimmers. If you have searched for the best Blue Lagoon Padang Bai snorkeling, this is exactly the spot, and arriving in the morning, before the afternoon wind, usually gives the clearest water.

Tanjung Jepun snorkelling spot

Tanjung Jepun is a second small bay a short distance from Blue Lagoon, framed by traditional outrigger fishing boats pulled up on the sand. Its reef slopes gently away from the beach, with patches of hard coral, sea fans and plenty of small fish darting between them, which makes it an easy, relaxed place to continue snorkelling after the first session.

Combining the two spots gives you two quite different underwater landscapes in one morning without a long boat ride. The instructor chooses the order and timing according to the tide and the sea conditions on the day. Bring a towel, a change of clothes and water shoes, because you will move straight on to the waterfall and the canyon afterwards, and there is little time to return to your hotel in between.

Tegenungan Waterfall near Ubud

Tegenungan Waterfall lies in Kemenuh village in the Sukawati district, a short drive south of Ubud, and is one of the few large waterfalls in Bali that is not in the mountains. A wide curtain of water falls over a rocky cliff into a broad pool surrounded by jungle, and a long flight of steps leads from the viewpoints at the top down to the riverbank.

On this tour you have time to walk down, get close to the falls and swim in the pool below them when conditions allow, which is the best way to cool off from the tropical sun. Many travellers ask whether Tegenungan Waterfall is worth visiting: for an easy-to-reach, genuinely powerful waterfall close to Ubud, the answer is yes. Remember that the climb back up the steps is steep, so take it slowly.

Beji Guwang Hidden Canyon, Sukawati

The Beji Guwang Hidden Canyon is a narrow river gorge in Guwang village, also in the Sukawati district, where water has shaped the rock over thousands of years into smooth, curving walls in shades of grey and ochre. The walk follows the river itself: you wade through shallow sections, climb over boulders and squeeze between the walls, with the guide showing the safest line.

The canyon is the most adventurous part of the day and takes around two hours, with chances to jump into deeper pools when the water level allows. It is a real highlight for anyone searching for a Bali canyoning tour without ropes or harnesses. Wear water shoes, expect to get completely wet and keep your phone in a waterproof pouch. After the canyon, our driver takes you back to your hotel.

How long does the tour take?

The full-day tour takes about eight hours including transfers. The snorkelling-only option lasts about two hours.

Is hotel pickup included?

Yes, with the full-day option: pickup and drop-off in Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran. The snorkelling-only option starts at a meeting point in Padang Bai.

What is included?

Is the price per person or per group?

The full-day option is priced by group size, and the snorkelling-only option per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price for each option.

Is it suitable for children or people with reduced mobility?

Children from 6 years can join with an adult if they are comfortable in the water. The tour is not suitable for pregnant women or people with mobility impairments because of the steps and river trekking.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to snorkel?

You should be comfortable in the water, but the instructor guides you and the reefs at Blue Lagoon are close to the shore in usually calm water.

What should I bring?

A change of clothes, a towel, flip-flops, water shoes, a camera and some cash. A waterproof pouch for your phone is useful in the canyon.

When is the best time to do this tour?

The dry season, roughly April to October, usually brings the clearest water for snorkelling and lower river levels in the canyon. Morning snorkelling is generally calmer.

What happens in bad weather?

Snorkelling and canyon trekking depend on sea and river conditions. If heavy rain or rough sea makes an activity unsafe, the guide adjusts the plan on the day, and we contact you if the tour has to be rescheduled.

Can I swim at Tegenungan Waterfall?

Yes, swimming in the pool below the falls is part of the visit when conditions allow. Follow the guide's advice on where it is safe.
