Full Description

Gates of Heaven at Pura Lempuyang Luhur

Pura Lempuyang Luhur is one of Bali's six holiest temples, spread over the slopes of Mount Lempuyang in the Karangasem region. The Gates of Heaven Bali tour stops at the first temple of the complex, Penataran Agung, where a split gate frames Mount Agung, the island's 3,031-metre volcano. The famous floating reflection is a photographer's mirror trick, not a lake, and it is a fun part of the visit.

Many travellers ask, is Gates of Heaven worth it? The photo is memorable, but the real value is the temple setting, the mountain air and the ceremony you may witness. Visitors wear a sarong and sash, and queues for the gate photo grow long later in the morning. That is why a tour with an early start is the best time to visit Lempuyang.

Tirta Gangga Water Palace

Tirta Gangga means water of the Ganges. The complex was built in 1948 by the last raja of Karangasem as a royal retreat, and it was rebuilt after the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung. Tirta Gangga water palace is known for its eleven-tier fountain, stone sculptures, ornamental gardens and a maze of pools where stepping stones lead through colourful koi.

Allow about an hour to wander here, feed the fish and look over the rice terraces beyond the walls. Many people search for Tirta Gangga opening hours before booking; the complex opens in the daytime and quietest visits are early or later in the afternoon. On this tour the entrance ticket is covered in the default option and in the Kuta group option.

Bali jungle swing above the valley

The Bali jungle swing is the adrenaline-and-photo stop of the day. Guests sit in a harness and swing out over a forested ravine, with palms and rice terraces below and a wide sky ahead. Staff take photos, and floating dresses or scarves are often used to create the classic effect.

If you are searching for a Bali swing tour or Ubud swing tickets, this option combines it with two cultural landmarks in one day, so you do not need to arrange transport separately. Weight and age rules apply for safety, and comfortable clothing and secure shoes are enough.

East Bali countryside and planning your day

East Bali, or Karangasem, is greener and quieter than the south, with long views of terraced rice paddies and, on clear days, Mount Agung on the horizon. The drive from Ubud takes around two hours each way and from Kuta longer, which is why the tour lasts ten to eleven hours and starts early. Traffic and ceremonies can change the timing of each stop.

The best time to visit East Bali is the dry season from April to October, when mornings are clearer. Rain can make the steps at Lempuyang slippery, so bring grip shoes. A day trip to East Bali from Ubud or Kuta is long but comfortable in an air-conditioned vehicle, and your guide handles routes, tickets and parking.
