Full Description

Caversham Wildlife Park, koalas and kangaroos

The first stop after pickup is Caversham Wildlife Park in the Swan Valley, on the northern edge of Perth. It is a small, friendly park where you can meet koalas and wombats and hand-feed kangaroos, an experience that is a highlight for children and adults alike. Feeding is done gently, and the keepers explain how to approach each animal.

This stop makes a Perth wildlife day tour easy, because you get close to native animals without a long walk. Wear closed shoes and keep your bag zipped, since kangaroos are curious. Animal encounters depend on the keepers' schedule and the animals' mood on the day.

Cervantes and the Pinnacles Desert

From the park the tour follows quiet back roads to Cervantes, a small fishing town on the coast known for its rock lobster fleet. Your lunch of fish and chips is included here, and the sea views make it a relaxed stop before the desert.

The Pinnacles Desert lies in Nambung National Park just outside town, where thousands of limestone pillars rise from the yellow sand. You walk an easy trail among them to see the shapes up close, and your guide explains how they formed. If you are asking whether a Pinnacles tour from Perth is worth it, the strange landscape is the reason people return. Entry fees are included.

Lancelin sand dunes: 4WD and sandboarding

Lancelin is a fishing village about two hours north of Perth, and its white sand dunes are among the largest in Western Australia. The tour includes a 45-minute 4WD ride in a custom-built vehicle that climbs and dips across the dunes, followed by downhill sandboarding, with boards provided.

The 4WD part is not allowed for pregnant women, people with back problems or infants, for safety reasons, and infants must stay with a parent during that time. Soft sand can occasionally cause small delays. Bring a hat, sunglasses and a bottle of water.

The tour runs from about 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM and returns via Indian Ocean Drive, a scenic coastal road. Pickup is from selected Perth CBD and Northbridge hotels, from 12 pickup locations, and pickup outside those areas is not included.

The day may run in a coach depending on passenger numbers, but the 4WD ride always operates in a 4WD vehicle. Wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a camera, a hat and some cash for extras. Hotel drop-off is included at the end of the day.
