Full Description

The Brighton zip wire tower and the ride

The Brighton zip wire starts from a tall steel tower on Madeira Drive, just east of the Palace Pier. After checking in and receiving a short safety briefing from the staff, you are fitted with a harness and climb the spiral staircase to the launch platform 32 metres above the seafront. From the top, the views over the beach, the pier and the sea are already worth the climb.

Then comes the moment of release: you glide down the cable, picking up speed as you race along the shore, with the sea on one side and the seafront on the other. The ride lasts less than a minute, but the rush stays with you for much longer. You land smoothly in the hull of a boat-shaped landing stage on the beach, where staff help you unclip.

Madeira Drive and Brighton's seafront

Madeira Drive is the long seafront road that runs east from the Palace Pier towards the marina, backed by a green iron terrace built in the late nineteenth century. It hosts classic car rallies, cycle rides and summer events, and its wide promenade is lined with beach cafés, a crazy golf course and play areas for children.

Below the zip wire, the shingle beach slopes down to the water, and on warm days it fills with swimmers and families. Food stands near the zip wire serve classic seaside fish and chips, ice cream and doughnuts. It is a lively, sunny corner of the seafront, and many visitors pair the ride with a stroll along Madeira Drive or the Palace Pier.

The Palace Pier and nearby sights

Right beside the zip wire, the Palace Pier stretches out to sea with its kiosks, arcades and small funfair, and it is the perfect place for photos of the zip line from a different angle. A few minutes inland, the Royal Pavilion with its Indian-style domes and the narrow lanes of the old town offer a calmer contrast after the adrenaline of the ride.

Further west along the seafront stand the Brighton i360 tower and the ruins of the West Pier. If you want to combine thrills and views, ride the zip wire in the afternoon and take a flight in the i360 pod before sunset. The Brighton hop-on hop-off bus also stops close to the pier, which makes the zip wire easy to fit into a day of sightseeing.

Planning your ride: opening times, weather and how to get there

The Brighton zip wire usually opens from late morning to early evening in the warmer months, with shorter hours in winter. Riders must be at least eight years old, 130 centimetres tall and weigh between 30 and 120 kilograms. The ride is weather-dependent: in very strong winds or storms, sessions can be paused or moved to a later slot. The best time to ride is on a calm, sunny afternoon.

How to get to the Brighton zip wire? From Brighton railway station, walk about 15 minutes downhill to the seafront and turn east at the Palace Pier. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that cover your stomach, tie back long hair and leave jewellery behind. Swimwear and skirts are not allowed on the ride.
