Full Description
Lower Antelope Canyon with a Navajo guide
Lower Antelope Canyon is a narrow slot canyon in the red sandstone near Page, Arizona, on Navajo land. Wind and flash floods have carved smooth, curving walls, and the light that falls into the canyon turns them orange, gold and purple. This tour includes a guided visit of about an hour with an experienced Navajo guide, who also explains the canyon's natural and cultural history.
Lower Antelope Canyon has a few ladders and staircases, so you need to be comfortable climbing. Antelope Canyon tours from Las Vegas are popular, and this one is included in the entrance fee. The best time to visit Antelope Canyon for light is around midday, though the walls glow in other hours too.
Horseshoe Bend overlook
Horseshoe Bend is a tight curve of the Colorado River that wraps around a rock like a horseshoe, seen from a cliff about 1,000 feet above the water. You spend about an hour here, including a hike of about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) round trip on a sandy trail. In summer there is no shade, so bring water, a hat and sunscreen.
Is Horseshoe Bend worth visiting? Yes, especially for photographs of the emerald river against red cliffs. Entry to the overlook is included, so you do not need to plan any extra stop.
Grand Canyon National Park
The last major stop is Grand Canyon National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where layered bands of red rock show millions of years of geological history. You spend about an hour here at the viewpoints, which is a short time for such a huge place but enough for that first, unforgettable view.
Entrance to the park is included in the tour, though non-US residents may pay an additional national park entrance fee. If you want much longer at the rim, consider our dedicated South Rim tour from Las Vegas, which gives about three hours of free time there.
The long day in a small van from Las Vegas
Because the three stops are far apart, this is a long day, about 17 hours in total, and it starts around 4:30 AM. Your driver and guide look after the timing, and lunch is included, but breakfast and dinner are not, so bring snacks. The shared van holds up to 12 people, which keeps the group small.
Pickup and drop-off are at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Children under 8 years and under 145 cm need a child seat, so please tell us in advance. For children under 3, please contact us, because a private tour may be the better choice. Delays can occur due to weather or traffic.
