Full Description
Bayside Marketplace and downtown Miami
The main stop is Bayside Marketplace, an open-air shopping and dining complex on the waterfront of downtown Miami, where palm-lined walkways overlook the marina and the cruise boats. From here the bus heads through the business district, with its glass towers, the performing arts centre and Museum Park, before crossing the water to Miami Beach.
Bayside is also where the bay cruise and the night tour depart, so it makes a practical base for your two days. If you are wondering how to get to Bayside Marketplace, it sits on Biscayne Boulevard and is easy to reach by the free downtown Metromover or by taxi. Plan to return here for the evening tour, which leaves at 20:00, and arrive a little early to find your seat.
South Beach and the Art Deco district
South Beach is the Miami everyone imagines: wide white sand, turquoise water and colourful lifeguard towers. Just behind the beach, Ocean Drive and the streets of the Art Deco Historic District hold hundreds of pastel buildings from the 1930s and 1940s, with neon signs, rounded corners and porthole windows that make the area one of the most photographed in the United States.
Hop off here to walk along the beach promenade, swim, or explore the shops and cafés a few blocks inland. From the top deck you get a fine view of the restored façades and the palm-lined park along the sand. A South Beach visit is worth at least two or three hours, and with a 48-hour ticket you can easily return the next morning when the light is softer.
Wynwood Walls and the Design District
Wynwood was once a district of warehouses and factories; today its walls are covered in giant murals by street artists from around the world, turning the neighbourhood into an open-air gallery. The Wynwood Walls, a gated garden of large-scale murals, is the heart of the area, surrounded by galleries, coffee shops and colourful side streets that are great for photos.
A short ride north, the Miami Design District offers a very different mood, with luxury boutiques, striking architecture and public art installations in calm, shaded plazas. Hopping off at both stops shows the creative side of Miami in one afternoon. If you want to know whether a Wynwood tour is worth it, the murals alone, changing every year, make it one of the most original stops on the route.
Little Havana and Calle Ocho
Little Havana grew from the 1960s as the centre of Miami's Cuban community, and Calle Ocho, SW 8th Street, is its lively main avenue. Here you hear Spanish spoken everywhere, smell fresh Cuban coffee from street windows, and watch locals play dominoes in a small park where the games are serious and the conversation never stops.
Hop off to see the Cuban Memorial Boulevard with its monuments, the walk of fame stars set in the pavement, cigar shops where leaves are rolled by hand, and small cafés serving pastries and sandwiches. The neighbourhood is compact, so an hour or two is enough. The audio commentary on the bus explains the history of Cuban migration and how it shaped the language, food and music of the whole city.
Biscayne Bay cruise past Millionaire's Row
The 90-minute bay cruise departs from Bayside Marketplace and sails out into Biscayne Bay, the shallow, sparkling water that separates the mainland from Miami Beach. You pass the cruise ships docked at PortMiami, then follow the shoreline of Star Island and the other private islands known as Millionaire's Row, where grand waterfront mansions sit behind lawns and private docks.
A guide on board shares stories about the islands, the skyline and the city's growth from a small trading post into a global city. The boat has covered, air-conditioned areas and open decks for photos, and the views back to the downtown towers are among the best in Miami. Is a Biscayne Bay cruise worth it? It is the easiest way to see the mansions and skyline from the water in one relaxed trip.
Miami by night
At 20:00, a separate 90-minute night tour leaves Bayside Marketplace with a live guide. As the sun sets, the skyline lights up in changing colours, the bridges glow over the water and Ocean Drive comes alive with neon signs, music from the restaurants and crowds strolling under the palms. It is a completely different side of the city.
The night tour is narrated in person, so you can ask questions about what you see. It is a good way to enjoy the energy of South Beach after dark without driving or parking, and it fits well at the end of a day spent at the beach or in the museums. Bring a light layer, as the breeze on the open top deck can feel cool in the evening.
