Full Description
The Grand Reef: snorkelling in Orlando
The Grand Reef is the heart of Discovery Cove, a large saltwater lagoon designed to look like a Caribbean reef, with coral-style rock formations, sandy shallows and deeper channels. You snorkel among schools of tropical fish and gentle rays gliding along the sandy bottom, while sharks and barracudas swim safely behind clear viewing panels. The water is heated in the cooler months, so snorkelling is comfortable all year.
No experience is needed: the team explains the gear, and a flotation vest lets beginners float calmly while they look down at the fish. Wetsuits or vests are required in the animal habitats and are included in your ticket. For many visitors this is the most relaxing snorkelling in Orlando, with no boat ride, no waves and lifeguards on duty everywhere. Spend at least an hour here, ideally in the morning when the water is calmest.
Wind-away River, the aviary and the Freshwater Oasis
The Wind-away River is a gentle saltwater stream that loops around the resort. You swim or float past sandy beaches, under a waterfall, through a dark rock cave and into the Explorer's Aviary, where you can step out and meet hundreds of tropical birds. In the smaller aviary, keepers hand you a little food so that colourful birds land right on your arm.
Nearby, the Freshwater Oasis is a shallow, crystal-clear area where you wade between rocks and rainforest plants and watch playful small-clawed otters and tiny marmoset monkeys up close in their habitats. These quieter corners are perfect for families with younger children and for photographers. Follow the river at your own rhythm; many guests float around it two or three times during the day, especially in the warm early afternoon.
Beaches, meals and the all-inclusive day
Between swims, Discovery Cove feels like a private island. Shaded loungers, hammocks and palm trees line the white-sand beaches, and the quiet freshwater pool is reserved for relaxing. Breakfast is served from the morning check-in, a freshly prepared lunch is included at the main restaurant, and snack stations with soft drinks, fruit and ice cream are open all day at no extra cost.
Is Discovery Cove worth visiting? If you want a calm, crowd-free day in Orlando with snorkelling and animals instead of rides, it is one of the most memorable experiences in the area, because daily numbers are kept low. Plan the whole day, from about 08:00 or 09:00 until 17:00. The best time to visit Discovery Cove is from April to October, when the air is warmest, though the lagoons are heated in winter.
How to get to Discovery Cove and the upgrade options
Discovery Cove is at 6000 Discovery Cove Way, next to SeaWorld Orlando and a short drive from International Drive and the I-4 motorway, about 20 minutes from Orlando International Airport. Parking is free for resort guests, and taxis and ride-hailing cars drop off at the welcome area. Hotel transfers are not included, so plan your own ride or rental car.
This page also offers upgrades. The dolphin swim options add a 30-minute small-group session in the Dolphin Lagoon, with a deep-water tow or shallow-water interaction, for guests aged 6 and over. Other options combine your resort day with 14 days of unlimited admission to SeaWorld Orlando and Aquatica, or to those two parks plus the sister park in Tampa, so you can enjoy calm and thrills on the same trip.

The price is per person. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.

Children love the shallow areas and the birds, and flotation vests help young swimmers. Guests with reduced mobility should contact us before booking, as some water areas need assistance.
