Barron Gorge National Park and the Barron River
Barron Gorge National Park is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, a rugged landscape of steep rainforest slopes, deep ravines and ancient waterfalls just inland from Cairns. The Barron River cuts through it on its way to the coast, providing one of the best half-day rafting trips in Tropical North Queensland.

The rapids and what to expect

Choosing between the three options
The default option includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Cairns and takes about four hours in total. The second option is for guests who make their own way to the meeting point at Lake Placid Carpark, Lake Placid Road, and lasts around two and a half hours.
The third option collects guests from Port Douglas and takes about six hours in total, because of the longer drive. All three include training, safety equipment, the rafting itself and national park fees. Departures are in the afternoon, so you can combine rafting with a relaxed morning elsewhere.
