Full Description

Petřín Lookout Tower

The Petřín Lookout Tower stands on Petřín Hill, about 327 metres above sea level, and was built in 1891 for the Jubilee Exhibition, inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It rises around sixty metres and is often called Prague's little Eiffel Tower. If you are looking for Petřín Tower tickets, this combined ticket includes entry to the tower and the Mirror Maze.

You can climb the 299 steps to the top, and a lift for disabled visitors and seniors runs up to the top observation cabin. At the base, a small exhibition explains the history of the tower and its links with Paris, and shows how iron construction changed the world in the nineteenth century.

Views over Prague from the top

From the observation deck you see the Vltava river winding through the city, Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral on the opposite hill, the roofs of the Old Town and Malá Strana and, on a clear day, the countryside beyond. It is one of the best panoramas in the city and is less crowded than the busiest viewpoints.

Is Petřín Tower worth visiting? Yes, especially on a clear day and if you enjoy climbing: the views are worth the effort. Sunset is popular, so arrive early if you want to catch the light without waiting for space on the platform.

The Mirror Maze

A short walk from the tower is the Mirror Maze, in a small castle-like pavilion built in 1891 for the same exhibition. You enter a labyrinth of mirrors and find your way through to a diorama of the 1648 battle of the Prague inhabitants against the Swedes on Charles Bridge.

The maze ends in the hall of laughter, where warped and twisted mirrors make everyone laugh at their reflection. It is a quick and playful stop that children love and takes about twenty minutes, and adults enjoy it just as much as the younger visitors do.

Petřín Park and how to get there

Petřín Hill is one of the greenest parts of Prague, with a rose garden, orchards, an observatory and the Hunger Wall on its slopes. It is a pleasant place for a walk after your visit.

To get there, take the funicular from Újezd in Malá Strana, which is not included in this ticket and uses public transport fares, or walk up the hill in about twenty to thirty minutes. Strahov Monastery and Prague Castle are around twenty minutes away on foot, so the park suits a longer walking day. Wear comfortable shoes.
