Full Description
Quad Biking in the Eastern Desert
Just beyond Hurghada's last buildings the Eastern Desert begins, a wide plain of sand and gravel rising to the jagged Red Sea Mountains. The quad route follows desert tracks and dry riverbeds known as wadis, and the ride of around 40 kilometres in total gives you a real sense of space, with the coast glinting behind you.
Before setting off, the team gives a safety briefing and a practice session, and you ride in a line behind the guide at a comfortable pace, with photo stops along the way. A quad bike safari in Hurghada suits beginners: no licence is needed, and passengers can share a quad with a driver. Riders must be 16 or over to drive their own bike.
The Bedouin Village
Halfway through the ride you reach a Bedouin village, where families of the desert show how they have lived for generations. You watch flat bread being baked on a hot metal dome over the fire and taste it warm, then sit on carpets for sweet Bedouin tea, often brewed with desert herbs.
A short camel ride follows around the village, a classic part of any Hurghada desert safari with camel ride. Your guide explains how Bedouin life has adapted to heat, water scarcity and tourism. The visit lasts about 45 minutes and is a gentle, cultural break between the two stretches of quad driving.
Sunset, BBQ Dinner and Desert Night
In the default sunset option, you ride back as the sky turns orange behind the mountains, then gather at the camp for a BBQ dinner of grilled chicken and meats, rice, salads and bread. Performers follow with a colourful Tanoura spinning dance and a traditional oriental show, and there is time to look up at the stars far from the lights of the resorts.
The best time for a quad safari in Hurghada is the late afternoon from October to April, when temperatures are pleasant; in summer the morning ride is cooler. Goggles and a scarf protect you from dust and can be added when you book, and photo packages are offered on the day.
