Full Description
The safari station and your first drive
The safari begins at a desert station outside Hurghada, where you are welcomed with a drink and given a clear safety briefing. Helmets, a scarf and goggles are important in the dust, and the guides show you the controls of the quad before anyone drives. A short practice area lets beginners get comfortable, so no previous experience is needed, and the group then follows the guide in a safe, organised convoy.
The first stage is a quad drive of about thirty minutes across open desert tracks, with flat gravel plains, small dunes and the mountains of the Red Sea range in the distance. Keep your distance from the vehicle in front and follow the guide's pace. Many guests ask whether quad biking in Hurghada is safe for first-timers, and with the briefing and the convoy it is a controlled, enjoyable activity.
The buggy and the jeep through the desert
After the quad, you switch to a buggy for about fifteen minutes, which is steadier and a different feeling, with a roll cage and seat belts. The two vehicles let you compare the driving styles, and some options replace the buggy with a longer quad drive for quad fans.
Then you climb into a 4x4 jeep for an off-road ride of roughly twenty-five kilometres deeper into the desert toward the Bedouin village. The jeep takes the rough ground for you, so you can look at the landscape: dry valleys, rocky ridges, acacia trees in dry riverbeds and the warm colours of the Eastern Desert in the afternoon light. This is the best moment for photographs.
The Bedouin village
The Bedouin have lived in the Eastern Desert for centuries, moving between wells and grazing, and the village visit gives a respectful look at their way of life. You are welcomed with sweet Bedouin tea and shown simple homes and traditions. The visit is the cultural heart of the safari, and the guide explains the customs and how the families live in this dry landscape.
You visit a small herbal pharmacy, where local herbs and natural oils are shown and explained, and watch a demonstration of how Bedouin bread is baked using simple materials. Visits usually take about an hour. You are free to buy herbs or souvenirs, though there is no obligation. Please ask permission before photographing people.
The camel ride
A short camel ride is part of the Bedouin village stop. Camels have been the desert's working animals for thousands of years, and a ride of a few minutes is a fun experience, especially for children and anyone who has never been on one. The animals are led by their handlers, and you sit on a saddle with a handle to hold.
Getting on and off is the moment to be careful: the camel kneels and then stands up in two jerks, so hold on and lean back. The ride is short, easy and designed for photographs, and it gives a good sense of the scale of the animal and the quiet of the desert. If you are asking whether the camel ride is suitable for children, ask us about ages when you book.
Dinner, oriental show and stargazing
In the afternoon safari the day finishes after sunset with dinner and an oriental show in the desert camp. The food is served for the whole group, and the show with music and dance brings the evening to life. The desert air cools quickly after sunset, so a light jacket is useful.
One option adds stargazing: far from the lights of Hurghada, the sky is clear, and an astronomer shows you stars and planets through a telescope. The morning options skip dinner and the show and finish earlier, so choose the one that suits your timetable. The best time for a desert safari in Hurghada is the afternoon, for cooler temperatures and a better sunset.
