Full Description

The Sinai Desert Behind Sharm El Sheikh

Just 30 minutes from the resorts of Naama Bay and Sharm's coastal hotels, the landscape changes completely: flat sand plains give way to granite and sandstone mountains that glow red and orange in the low sun. This is the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, a desert shaped by dry riverbeds (wadis) and crossed for centuries by Bedouin tribes and their camels.

A desert safari in Sharm El Sheikh is the easiest way to see this side of Sinai. Our route follows marked tracks away from the main road, so you get wide open views and real off-road feeling without long drives. Many guests say the quiet of the desert, after the busy beaches, is the best part of the whole Sharm holiday.

Quad Biking and Buggy Riding: How the Ride Works

Every group starts at the safari camp with a clear briefing on controls, speed and hand signals, followed by a short practice loop. No previous riding experience is needed, which is why this quad biking in Sharm El Sheikh trip is popular with first-timers. Helmets and goggles are provided, together with a scarf to keep sand out of your face.

You ride in single file behind the lead guide, with a second guide mid-convoy and a third at the back, so nobody gets left behind. The default option gives each rider a single quad; if you prefer to share, there are double quads and buggies for two or three people, which let children ride as passengers with an adult.

Bedouin Tent, Tea and the Echo Point

Halfway through the ride the convoy stops at a traditional Bedouin tent. Sit on floor cushions for about 20 minutes, drink sweet herbal tea brewed over the fire and learn a little about how Sinai's Bedouin families live in the desert. Camel riding is available here as an optional extra.

A short ride later you reach the echo point, a rocky amphitheatre where your voice bounces back from the mountain walls. It is a favourite spot for group photos, especially on the Sharm El Sheikh sunset safari, when the sky turns pink behind the peaks. You then ride back to camp for the transfer to your hotel.

Sunrise or Sunset: Best Time for a Desert Safari

Wondering about the best time for a quad safari in Sharm El Sheikh? From May to September, midday heat can be intense, so our tours run early morning or late afternoon. The sunrise ride is cooler and calmer, with soft light and fewer groups in the desert.

The sunset ride is the classic choice: the heat has faded, colours are dramatic and you return to the hotel in time for dinner. In winter evenings can feel chilly, so a light jacket helps. Whichever you pick, pickup times are confirmed the day before your trip.
