Full Description

The Coloured Canyon in South Sinai

The Coloured Canyon is one of the most photogenic natural sights in Sinai. Over thousands of years wind and water have carved narrow passages through sandstone, leaving smooth walls striped in red, orange, yellow, purple and cream. On this trip you visit the Salama Coloured Canyon and walk through its winding corridors, where the walls close in above you and the light shifts from one bend to the next.

A Coloured Canyon tour from Sharm El Sheikh is usually the highlight of any Sinai excursion, because it needs a jeep to reach and a short scramble to enjoy. Wear closed shoes with good grip, keep a little water with you, and leave heavy bags in the vehicle. Visit times are set by your guide so that you see the canyon before the heat of the day.

Dahab: the Red Sea coast and the town

Dahab is a small coastal town on the Gulf of Aqaba, known for its relaxed pace, seafront cafes, bazaars and a landscape of sea, sand and mountains. After the desert and coast, you are given time in Dahab to browse shops, take photographs and get a first taste of the town, which many travellers later return to for a longer stay.

If you have ever wondered whether a day trip to Dahab from Sharm El Sheikh is worth it, this itinerary shows why. The distance is roughly ninety kilometres, so a day is enough to see the highlights, but by the end you may want to come back for the snorkelling, the food and the calm atmosphere.

Snorkelling between Dahab and Abu Galum

The snorkelling stop is on the coast between Dahab and the Abu Galum protected area, a stretch known for clear water and healthy reef close to the shore. The reef begins near the beach, so you enter the water from the coast and see corals and reef fish within a few metres of the sand.

Important note: snorkelling equipment is not included in this trip, so bring your own mask, snorkel and fins or arrange to hire them locally. The coast here is suitable for confident swimmers and beginners in calm conditions, but tell your guide if you are unsure. Bring swimwear, a towel and reef-safe sunscreen.

Camel ride, quad ride and Bedouin lunch

The trip mixes the desert and the sea with a camel ride along the beach and the desert, and with the option we show first, a double quad ride over the same terrain. The quad is a shared machine driven by one person with a passenger, so it suits couples and friends; the alternative option leaves out the quad if you prefer a calmer day.

Lunch is served in a Bedouin tent on the Dahab coast, in a simple local style with the sea in front of you. It is a relaxed stop that breaks up the long day. Drinks at the restaurant and any extras that are not in the programme are paid separately, so bring a little cash.
