Full Description
Malacca Straits Mosque (Masjid Selat Melaka)
Our first stop is the Malacca Straits Mosque, opened in 2006 on Pulau Melaka, a man-made island just off the coast. Built on stilts at the edge of the sea, it seems to float on the water at high tide, and its slender minaret doubles as a lighthouse for ships in the Straits. The design blends Middle Eastern domes with Malay details, and the stained-glass windows fill the prayer hall with soft colour.
Visitors are welcome outside prayer times; robes and headscarves are usually provided at the entrance for those who need them, and a small entry fee is paid on site. The seaside terrace is one of the best photo spots in Malacca. On a private tour your driver times this stop around prayer hours, and Muslim guests can join the prayer if they wish.
Dutch Square and Christ Church
In the old town, Dutch Square greets you with a row of brick-red buildings that recall Malacca's Dutch period from 1641. The Stadthuys, the former town hall and governor's residence, dates from the mid-seventeenth century and now holds a museum, while Christ Church, completed in 1753, still serves as a place of worship. A small clock tower and a marble fountain complete the square.
Because the tour is private, you can spend as long as you like here, step inside the museum if it interests you or simply find the best angle for family photos. The decorated trishaws gather around the square, and this is where most private Malacca tours begin their time in the heritage zone.
St Paul's Hill and A Famosa
Steps behind the square climb St Paul's Hill to the roofless ruins of St Paul's Church, first built by the Portuguese in 1521. Old Dutch tombstones lean against its walls, and from the top you look across the town to the Straits of Malacca, the sea lane that made the city rich. The climb takes about ten minutes at an easy pace.
On the other side of the hill stands the Porta de Santiago, the only surviving gate of A Famosa, the Portuguese fortress raised in 1511 and largely demolished in the early 1800s. Together the church and gate tell the story of four centuries of foreign powers competing for this port. Allow 45 minutes for both, at whatever pace suits your family.
Trishaw Ride through the Old Town
Malacca's trishaws are unlike any others: bicycle rickshaws covered in plastic flowers, fairy lights and colourful themes, often with music playing as they roll along. Your trishaw ride, included in the default option, takes you around the heritage zone past Dutch Square, the riverside and the old government buildings, giving tired legs a rest between sights.
The ride is a favourite with children and a fun way to see the streets at a relaxed speed. Each trishaw usually carries two adults, or two adults with a small child. Your driver arranges the ride and meets you where it ends, so you never have to worry about finding your way back to the vehicle.
Malacca River Cruise
The Malacca River was the lifeline of the old port, and a cruise along it shows the town from the water. The boat passes restored warehouses, colourful murals, shophouses with balconies and the wooden houses of Kampung Morten, the traditional Malay village whose stilted homes stand right in the city centre.
The cruise lasts about 40 to 45 minutes and is a relaxing break in the middle of the day. If you are wondering about the best time to visit Malacca for photos, the soft light of the early afternoon on the river is a good answer. After the cruise your driver takes you to lunch, and the menu can be adapted to your dietary needs if you tell us when booking.
Jonker Street and Harmony Street
The last stop is Jonker Street, the main lane of the old Chinese and Peranakan quarter, lined with antique shops, craft stores and stalls selling local sweets such as pineapple tarts and cendol. Just one street over, the road known as Harmony Street gathers Cheng Hoon Teng temple, the Kampung Kling Mosque and a Hindu temple side by side, a symbol of Malacca's mixed heritage.
With a private driver waiting, you decide how long to shop before heading back to Kuala Lumpur. Is Malacca worth visiting with children or older parents? On a private tour, yes: there is no group to keep up with, the vehicle is always close and you can rest whenever you need, which makes the long day comfortable for every generation.

Straight answers to what travellers ask us most, before they book.
Is this tour private?
Yes. The vehicle and driver are reserved only for your party, and you will not share the day with other travellers.
Can we change the itinerary or the pace?
Yes, within the day you can spend longer at the places you enjoy, shorten others or add a photo stop. Tell your driver on the day or our team on WhatsApp in advance.
How many people fit in the vehicle?
The private vehicle is matched to the number of guests you book. For larger families or groups, our team confirms the arrangement on WhatsApp after booking.
Is the price per person or per group?
The options are priced per person for a private tour. The booking panel on this page shows the current price of each option.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes, for hotels within about 5 km of the Petronas Twin Towers. Guests staying further away meet the driver at a central point in the city.
What is included?
A private air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking driver who accompanies you at each stop, hotel transfers, stops at the Malacca Straits Mosque, Dutch Square, St Paul's Hill, A Famosa and Jonker Street, a trishaw ride, a Malacca River cruise and lunch. The mosque entry fee is extra.
Are there other options?
Yes. A simpler private option with the driver and all the heritage stops, without the trishaw ride, cruise and lunch, starts at 08:30 and is available in the booking panel.
How long is the tour?
About 10 hours from pickup to drop-off, including around 2 hours of driving each way.
Is it suitable for children or guests with reduced mobility?
It is ideal for families, as the private vehicle lets children and older relatives rest between stops. St Paul's Hill and the river boat involve steps, so it is not suitable for wheelchair users.

What is the best time of day or season?
The early start gets you to Malacca before the midday heat. The town is warm all year, with short afternoon showers more frequent from October to January; weekdays are quieter than weekends.
