Full Description
The Kasbah of Agadir Oufella
The Kasbah of Agadir Oufella crowns a hill above the city, and its viewpoint is the best answer to what to see in Agadir on a short visit. Built in the sixteenth century, during the Saadian dynasty, it was a fortress guarding the port and the coast. The 1960 earthquake destroyed the old town and most of the fort, but the thick outer walls and the gate with its inscription survive.
From the top you see the whole sweep of the bay, the long beach, the port and, on clear days, the foothills of the Atlas. The tour covers the Kasbah viewpoint, and your guide explains the history and the earthquake that reshaped Agadir. An entrance ticket to the Kasbah site is not included in either option. Late afternoon gives the best light, and the tour offers both morning and afternoon departures.
Souk El Had, the great market of Agadir
Souk El Had is the largest market in Agadir and one of the biggest in southern Morocco. Its name comes from the Arabic word for Sunday, because it began as a weekly market. Today it is a walled complex of lanes organised by trade: spices and dried fruit, argan oil and cosmetics, fresh produce, leather, ceramics, carpets, lamps and everyday goods.
A visit to Souk El Had gives you a clear view of daily life in the Souss region and is a good place to look for souvenirs. Your guide helps you find your way around, and you have time to look and compare. Friendly bargaining is expected, and a polite refusal is always accepted. Food and drinks and personal shopping are not included. Wear comfortable shoes and keep valuables close.
The marina, the seafront and the Mohammed V Mosque
The Agadir marina is the modern face of the city: a harbour front lined with cafes, boutiques and yachts, with the Kasbah hill rising behind it. It is a pleasant stop for photographs, and a good example of how Agadir has become one of Morocco's main seaside resorts since the earthquake. The wide seafront promenade runs along the beach and is the heart of evening life in town.
Along the route the tour also passes the Mohammed V Mosque, a landmark of modern Agadir with a tall minaret and elegant white architecture. Depending on the day, the programme can include the port and the fish market, where boats unload the catch. The guide adapts the stops to traffic and timing. If you ask whether the Agadir city tour is worth it, it is a quick, easy way to understand the city.
Hotel pickup or cruise port: choosing your tour
There are two versions. The hotel option lasts about three hours and includes pickup and drop-off at your hotel in Agadir, with departures in the morning and the afternoon. The cruise port option lasts about four hours and meets at the Agadir cruise port, with the exact meeting spot sent after booking. It covers the Kasbah viewpoint, the seafront promenade and the local markets, and does not include hotel transfers.
Both are guided tours by vehicle with a professional driver and guide, designed to show you the highlights without long walks. Please check the booking panel for the times offered on your date. If you are visiting Agadir on a day off a ship, the cruise port option is the better choice, and if you are staying in a hotel, the first option saves time.
